December 5, 201015 yr Hello gentleman's,I'm very curious to know something about an aspect of painting the 8i, It shows in the default paints and in mine too; basically how do you paint vertical stabilizers which are filled with a certain color without having color leaking on the body below the stabilizer? Also how can you paint so there wont be white leftovers at the very front base of the stabilizer?Basically, how do you fill the vertical stabilizer with color correctly? Thanks A LOT for any good answers!

Are you using the PMDG templates?!?! They are in layer form (PSD) and need to be opened with PhotoShop or PaintShop Pro. Once you open these files you will be able to see all of the layers in the layer pallet. PMDG really did a great job on this and it really makes it easy to paint. You just need to get use to using them. Just make sure that you put your vertical tail colors below all of the panel layers! If you follow the layouts and add them to your template correctly you wont have any strange effects when loaded into FSX. John Hundley

January 16, 201115 yr Huh? I've never seen any PMDG templates besides the paintkits. You lost me here. That's what I was refering to. Maybe I'm just not understanding your question. When I open the paint kits (for instance, the Freighter_Side_Template Left) with Paint Shop Pro, I'm able to change the colors of the aircraft to whatever I want. I make sure that the fuselage (or tail) colors are below all of the layers with the exception of the white fuselage layer and the bright block layers (denoting the cut out areas). Having the main color below the layers insures that all of the weathered effects and panel lines etc., will remain visible once I'm done painting and finally merge the layers together.Once I have merged the layers I open the Freighter_Map_748i file. With the two fies side by side in Paint Shop, I can now copy sections of the merged fuselage and paste them into the Freighter_Map_748i file as a new layer. When I have everything just the way that I want it, I merge the Freighter_Map_748i file and save it as a .bmp file. Now I open the .bmp file with the DXTBmp program, add the alpha file (taken from an existing PMDG texture) and save the set as a DDS DXT5 file. Now...you're having trouble with "leaking"? I've also had this trouble. All I do is paint a little further outside of the lines of the fuselage or tail, but not over any existing items. That seems to eliminate the leaking effect I've seen.Hope this helps you a little! John Hundley
