  1. "either the MS distributed version or the Steam distributed version" This isn't a very clear statment, both or only one at the time?
  2. How do you know! Where did you find this information?
  3. So... I don't want to be THAT guy.. But will we be able to have our product installed on both boxed and steam versions? Also it would be nice to send out an email notification once the new installers are available.
  4. Hi, Does anyone know how much space the scenery packages of X-Plane Global take on the hard disk? I'm intererested in the base package size that you get from steam (only seattle area). I'm also interested in the size of the individual scenery packages that you have to download afterwards (europe, north america, etc) Thanks for the help!
  5. So we will be able to download the new installers? Also will we be eligible for a free install on steam? So we don't have to mess with our current FSX install.
  6. But how much fps do you lose by bumping the special effects slider from off to max? You need this to see all the effects.
  7. Alright, thanks! I have an overclocked 2600k @ 4.3 GHz and a brand new GTX 980. Should be plenty for this.
  8. Thank you very much. But i'm still curious how much of an impact turning the special effects slider from left to full right will have. Is it a CPU or GPU bound feature? I'm asking because my sim is currently in a very fine balance between looks and performance. Also what kind of effects would I miss if I chose not turn up the slider (leave off).. Also is this the same slider that controls auroras? I never seem to see them.
  9. Hey FSFX, just bought your sweet little package, but I have some questions before I start installing: - How exactly do it make this work with DX10? I just uninstall the fixes, apply 777 immersion and then re-apply the fixes? - I noticed you mentioned in the manual that I must increase my special effects detail slider to maximum to properly see those effects. I currently run this slider on the full left (off). I'm not going to see an impact by turning this on am I? - Last but not least, I hate changing settings from within FSX because it resets TML values and whatnot so I prefer manual cfg edits. This being said I'm curious what entry in the fsx.cfg controls the special effects detail slider and what value is the highest setting so I can just manually edit it. Is it EFFECTS_QUALITY=2? Thanks for the help.
  10. Not sure if this helps, but instead of using wide aspect you can use zoom instead, set it to a level you like and save as default flight. Also be careful with IPS panels, mine got burn in damage already from a long haul.
  11. Hey guys, Long story short, after flying a 5 hour night flight on my "new" monitor, the screen burned in and damaged some subpixels which are now stuck on red.. which is odd, considering I have ezca keeping the contents dynamic with the head bobbing. I am now looking around for a potential replacement monitor and frankly, I'm lost. I'm currently looking for a 27 inch, 1080p monitor that will not get burn in over time. Long hauls are my favorite type of flights and i just cannot stay in front of the monitor panning around for 14 hours, even real pilots don't sit that long at the controls.. I've been looking around and find out that IPS monitors are susceptible to burn in, but some say that's not true and that TN monitors can be just as susceptible to this.. So should I get an IPS replacement? Did I just have a dud? Or should I go for a TN panel? I'm currently looking at these two as potential replacements: AH-IPS: http://www.lg.com/ro/monitoare/lg-27MP75HM TN: http://www.lg.com/ro/monitoare/lg-27M45HQ The one I currently own is this one: http://www.philips.ro/c-p/274E5QDAB_00/monitor-lcd-cu-smartimage-lite/specifications Any ideas? What should I do?
  12. Amazing... Ladies and gents, we are witnessing the beginning of the end for FSX. It's beautiful.
  13. Hehe, well I've ordered myself a 980 as my monitor died and thought it was time for a little upgrade anyways xD
  14. I wonder if there are any plans for disabling SGAA from clouds. That would be the best thing ever.
  15. Hello guys, My LG 1680x1050 seems to have died from backlighting failure after 5 years of service. Usually I would not ask for help here as I'd simply find a replacement at the same resolution. The problem is that the most available resolutions seem to be 1920x1080 and I'm really anxious about getting those.. Because I run DX10 fsx with 4x SGSS antialiasing. I managed to make the frames good in 1680x1050 by lowering draw distance and visibility distance as well as setting my cloud textures to 1024. The effect was good, the hit was gone. But now I'm afraid if I go up to 1920x1080 I will get much less performance than on 1680x1050 due to the sparse grid AA. Am I scared for nothing oor is my concern legit? PC Specs: i7 2600k @ 4.3 GHz 8 GB DDR3 RAM GTX 580 I'm sorry if this has been posted already, but the way in which I use my my pc at this moment is going to give me neck pain
  16. Boy that's a lot of text to reply to I'd turn on Autosave and let it save each 10 mins until I was 100NM away. Then I'd just reload. This way I'd land with no problems and enough headroom to watch replays of my landing and whatnot. I wish there would be a feature at allows us to save at a certain point, that would be cool.. Not sure how it would be implemented. The OOM on my flight to Narita is caused by the extreme level of scenery most likely. I did monitor VAS when doing that test and it was in the 3 GB range easily. Probably never happened with the NGX because it was not complex enough. Could also be due to the FTX autogen possibly being denser, not sure. It's not really over stuffing if your frames are stable and smooth imo. Just FSX being horrible at managing that access space. Autosave does not reduce VAS, it just allows you to shut down your session and restart, thus resetting your VAS usage. It basically saves your flight at a set interval. Indeed the quality of the system has nothing to do with VAS, but with Autosave enabled you can use the headroom that you are restricting yourself from in fear of OOM and enjoy more eye candy. You may OOM or hear the bell, but at that moment you'd just reload your flight and continue like nothing happened.
  17. There's nothing horrible about Autosave, just delete your saves at the end of your flight. They go in the panel state folder of said aircraft. Or if you lose track just search "autosave" in the FSX folder and delete everything. A bit annoying, yes but nothing once you get used to it. Why reduce your immersion for a little bit of stability? Just reload with Autosave 100 NM before T/D and will not have anymore issues related to this! I'm also going to disagree with you on the first point. Before I was prompted to look for solutions to this problem, I flew this short flight between Osaka Itami and Narita. The only addons I had back then was Ray Smith ADE files, REX clouds and FTX Global. In this situation, other than the clouds, I cannot see what could possibly cause the OOM that occured each time once I got near the default Narita on finals because Japan is a very dense region. Also, the OOM only occurred with the 777. The NGX, 747 and the rest played nice on this route. So I could drastically lower my immersion for one addon that doesn't play nice or I could just use autosave and fly carefree. I took a moment to look at your computer specs and you have a lot of head room for more eye candy. If you can use autosave, why not try it? My system is slightly weaker than yours and I've never gotten an OOM with the 747 and NGX while flying DX9. Most of my sliders are full right, except AI, as I don't use it and my water is Low 2x.
  18. Check for Goldstar's textures, he takes the time to paint the interior details as well! http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=goldstar+canada&CatID=root&Go=Search
  19. ^^ What he said. I can't complete a flight with the T7 in DX9 but I can in DX10. Set your clouds to 1024, use DXT1 water and lower your ASN draw distances to ~60 and vary between 60 and 75 for visibility. (looks better like that anyway). Then use 8x MSAA + 4x SGAA. The latter is so you don't face horrible lag with SGAA. I did this today and I'm a happy camper. EDIT: The reason why you have such a huge usage at the end of your flight is because DX9 is bad at handling VAS so instead of dynamically being managed as DX10 does.. it just keeps growing until you're out of juice. If you fly from Osaka to Narita over default terrain you will OOM in the T7. That's about 1 hour and a half at most. >.> Seriously just switch to DX10 or use Autosave.
  20. Hey guys; After trying to get used to the lower levels of AA available in DX10, I went on a quest to find better settings. I tried - 4x MSAA + 4x SGAA, which is my current setting. It looks reasonably ok, but the jaggies can be annoying if you look close. - 8x MSAA + 8x SGAA, looks perfect but nobody can run this ;~; - 8x MSAA + 4x SGAA, looks great despite being an incompatible relationship.. but still lags very hard as soon as clouds appear. - 8x MSAA + 8x SSAA, looks perfect, runs smooth in clouds but looks really weird in DX10: textures look like they are lacking anisotropic filtering and get blurry. I suspect this might be caused by my mipmapping of textures.. but this is nonsense because in DX9 with 8xSSAA everything was superly sharp. - 4x MSAA + 4x SGAA + FXAA I've found FXAA, at first I didn't try it because I thought it was only for the rotating aircraft. But I tried it anyways. The result was drop dead gorgeous, the sim looked so wonderfully smooth.. it was unbelievable. There had to be a cost, this was too good to be true! Yeah.. there is: since I run FSX in fullscreen, each time I take a screenshot, it would not have the driver FXAA applied to it. This is really annoying because when I take screenshots I like to make albums and wallpapers out of them. Basically, is there a way to capture FXAA in full screen screenshots? Or can I add FXAA to screenshots? Alternatively, could I use the FXAA injector to get the same effect without using the driver FXAA? Could I use SweetFx along with FXAA injector in DX10 FSX? Thanks for any help, sorry if this post sounds confusing. Cheers,
  21. Paul, allow me to reformulate; 4x with 4xSGAA doesn't look as good for me than 8xS with 8xSSAA in DX9. It's my eyes. I see the jaggies and I start to judge. I'm the guy that will still be picky and spot staircases with 32x AA. It's in my head since I've been using powerful computers, the "maxing out syndrome" as some may call it. I tell myself its the change that comes with migrating to DX10. Considering the tradeoff with VC shadows and bloom, I think it's fair trade. Allow me to post a screenshot so you can see that the problem is me: http://i.imgur.com/R9ravNR.jpg If you look real close, you will see the effects of going from 8xS to 4x MSAA (Or whatever the in-game method is). Other than that, it's relatively smooth.. not as smooth as without SGAA, but it's bearable. As a bonus my VC displays are now extremely smooth, something which was impossible for me in DX9. Thank you very much for your help, Paul
  22. Thank you Paul, I'll try these right now! EDIT: It didn't work for me. Presuming 8x SGAA does not lead me to OOM, I think I will stomach the FPS hit, for I cannot handle the blurry jaggies from 4x. I'm a weird man.
  23. Does anyone have a link to Paul's ShaderHLSL so we can try this, or is it not necessary? I'm getting horrendous FPS in clouds and the low level of AA provided by 4x and 4xSGAA does not justify it. ;~;
  24. *bad Arnold Schwarzenegger impression* Give it to me! Nahow! *bad Arnold Schwarzenegger impression*
