Christmas Present

Featured Replies

So I'm probably going to get myself a new graphics card for Christmas but I need some advice on a few cards. I'm really an nVidia fan when it comes to FSX the last two cards I've owned were both nVidia and I've only owned one ATI card. Here are the choices I'm looking at and I'd like to keep it under $200.Asus GTX 460 768mbGigabyte 460GTX 1GBMSI 6850 1GBXFX HD5830 1GBI've read the reviews of them all and I know ATI cards have some quirks with FSX but they can be fixed so now I'd just like to know general opinions on what to get and the brand name doesn't matter much as long as it's under $200ThanksAlex

I would definitely go with nVidia for FSX.

For the 460 make sure it's the 1 gig version... it's not the same as the 768 which has a fairbit less power.

Yeah I've heard that but also heard that the shader fix helps ATI cards so I wondered if nVidia is still the winner here. It looks like I'll get betting the 460GTX

I've been debating that with myself, is the extra $40 worth it for the 1gb versus 768mb? I see the 1gb also has a larger L2 cache and a few other improvements

Well for 40 bucks you get an additional 256 megs of ram, and 8 more raster ops for a total of 32. I know people who've paid hundreds more for a lot less improvement.
