October 24, 200322 yr As a non-tech person almost totally fed-up with endless tweaks, downloads, and patches, etc., of everything in Windows and FS, I must confess the latest official nVidia 52.16 drivers are quite stunning. I run a medium hi-end DELL P4 + Ti4600 card, and frames are amazing. With sliders set largely right or 2/3 right and 1600x1200 res, I am getting 35 to 50 fps using the highly complex Ariane 737-300 (no FSAA switched-on) in spot view using Building Storms theme. My cap is now set to the customary 24 (personal preference) and these new drivers are just superb.I was pretty happy with the nVidia 45.20 release, but this one is better because...it just is. The nVidia blurb said fps for FS9 ran 30% better and I more or less believe 'em. Mostly though, it is smoother than ever in all weather and in all aircraft.Just wanted to post and say to anybody pondering the download: do it. If you feel newer drivers are not worth the risk, do it anyway. With Windows XP, installation is a snap (took me one minute or so), and it all works.Hope this is of use to somebody.JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
October 25, 200322 yr Author I pretty much have to agree JS. When I read the hype on the 52.16's I was more than douptful that they were that much of an improvement. On my now lowly PIV/1.7ghz 512system with a GF4200Ti I am getting the best frames ever flying the PMDG737NG with clouds and almost no stutters during the turns.I am at 1280/960/32 resolution I don't have AA or AF on, but the scenery is supurb as you say and the plane is outstanding anyway. I have increased the brightness of my nVidia desktop setting and the texture quality in FS9 is nothing short of outstanding. I have my frames locked at 20 and I get about 17-19 in all outside views and all side views. The panel view with the PMDG737 takes it down to about 12-15 but that is OK, when it is fluid and stutters are gone. Can't say enough good stuff finally about this driver, it is by far the best I have seen for quite some time.Bob Johnson
