Shimmer and Sparkle

Featured Replies

My hard drive crashed, and I had to install a new one last week. After re-installing FS9 on the new HD, I am experiencing excessive shimmer and sparkle that I never had with my previous installation on the old hard drive. I have an ATI Radeon 9600 pro, and an xp2700 processor. I tried ATI Cat 3.7 and Cat 3.8, Omega 3.7 and 3.8, also tried the leaked dell omega(which I cant access the 3d tab when I use dual monitors) and the shimmer and sparkle is the same with all drivers. I have AA set to 4x, and Ansio to 8X, and the box for AA within the sim is not checked. It is set for tri-linear. The resolution is 1280x1024x32, refresh 85hz. My frame rates are good. I have the mip map set to 4, and the lights set to 6. When I lower the mip map lower then 4 it gets rid of the sparkle, but kills the detail. I had these settings on FS9 before, and it worked well. Would it make any difference to re-install the sim again, or is the problem elsewhere?
