FS2004 system

Featured Replies

Hey,Due to life commitments I have not been able to sim for a good few of years. Even then I hadn't even managed to upgrade to FS2004, so for me alot has changed!I look at all the comments surrounding FSX and what system will run it best etc, and it reminds me why I never wanted to upgrade to FS2004 back then, the risk of buying a top spec PC and then a new addon being released which still brought the FPS to sub 10!For that reason I think i'm going to buy FS2004 and make use of all the addons for it. Could someone please suggest a more than capable system for FS2004 with the PMDG 737 and some decent scenery and AI? I'm not even that much of a technical person, so an off the rack system is fine with me. Just need some idea of what would suit. Many thanks in advance,Simon

Hi, I do have this system (spec´s are down in signature) ,and it works quite well with Fs9 and even FSX.In Fs9 I get mostly 30 frames per second, even in such sophisticated planes like the PMDG 747 with 85% traffic (default and nearly 300 WOAI packages) and this system wasn´t very expensive. It´s upper mid class.Hope that helps.

Best regards, Steffen

I'd agree with all of the above in regards to pricing. You don't need to break the bank for it. But the technology I'd differ on, don't buy anything that uses Socket 775 go for Socket 1156 or wait for 1155. Either way a nice i3-550 (~$125) or i5-760 if you want more power (~$200) would get the job done excellently. FS2004 doesn't use multicores but if you have ActiveSky or something you can run that on one of your other cores and let FS9 run alone on one core. Pair one of those CPU's with an ASUS P7P55D motherboard (~$150).For graphics a GTX460 (~$150-200) would go well with either of those CPU's along with a 10000RPM hard drive or an SSD for better loading speeds. All of these together with the CPU OC'ed to near 4ghz should run FS9 wonderfully just remember FS9 loves raw processor power so if you have to save money somewhere don't skimp on a processor.

All,Thank you so much for your feedback. This has given me some really good pointers! Much appreciated!Regards,Simon
