FS9 Boot-Up Problem

Featured Replies

I'm getting this error message just recently when I try to launch FS9. Any ideas why or how to fix it? Itried replacing the PANELS.dll module with a friends, it seemed to work once, then back to the error message. Appreciate any suggestions on this!http://southwest.corpmerchandise.com/image...l/200015138.gifAlex ChristoffN562ZBaltimore, MDhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/45723.jpg

Hi AlexI've been meaning to catch up with you after MAAM. How are you? I see another panel hit the libraries this week ...As for your problem ... what panels have you installed recently? Almost certainly a rogue panel is the cause of your difficulty here; The first POSKY 757 was causing a fault or two; and one or two panels have been uploaded recently short of gauges, FSSound.dll (which you must have installed, surely) and gauge sounds. You do have the FSSound clause in your FS9.CFG, right?Anyway, when are you coming up to NY? I want to hear all about you winning the landing contest for the second year running ...Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg

Mark! How nice to hear from you! We're well here in Baltimore, and I hope the same is true for you in NYC. I would love to come up visit in the very near future, in fact, I will speak to my wife about it tomorrow.Oddly enough, the problem with the boot-up came about as I was putting together the KingAir panel I just recently released. 400 plus people have downloaded it and I have yet to receive any reports of boot-up problems. Perhaps something odd happened on this end. When I was editing the bitmap in PAINT, the computer crashed and thats when my problem started. I've tried removing it, the panel folder, in fact I've removed the entire KingAir aircraft folder from FS9, but I still get the message. Do I have to reboot the computer once I remove the affected file(s)? That may be what I'm doing wrong. We missed you at the table on Saturday night at the AVSIM conference. Yeah I got lucky again with the landing contest and brought home some nice GoFlight gear to add to my avionics stack. Their stuff is really nice. I look forward to any other comments you may have on my debacle here, and like I said, I'll speak to my wife about heading up your way to visit in the immediate future. My Best Mark,http://southwest.corpmerchandise.com/image...l/200015138.gifAlex ChristoffN562ZBaltimore, MD

Hi again, Alex, good to hear more from you.I've looked at your new panel closely and can't find anything in the config there that would cause your problem, other than the main bitmap is stated to be 640 when it's 1024 ... but that wouldn't stuff your panel.dll, I don't think. You're using all default gauges, so no probs there either. Hmmmm ...Without wishing to teach grandmother, as I'm sure you know all this and I'm a rank amateur anyway, but, in this order, checking as you go, you might:1. Reboot, obviously, if you have not done so. I don't believe you have corrupted your panel.dll ... I think something else is upsetting it. It might clear with a reboot.2. Check what panels you have installed of late. Seems the most likely reason although your crash whilst painting is strange.3. If you know where to find it, backup your FS9.CFG and then remove it. Let FS create a new one on startup; you can always copy all your joystick and avionics settings back in later.3. Reinstall FS2004 if none of the above works. Can't be of any more use, I'm afraid. I know, however, how frustrating it can be not to be able to fire up the sim! Good luck and keep us advised. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than myself will gallop to your rescue.Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg

Hi Alex,I have one suggestion, although I doubt it will be helpful. But ya never know. Since you computer crashed you might want to run a filesystem check. To do it, if you're running WinXP, pull up a command prompt and type in the command 'chkdsk /F' or 'chkdsk /R' (chkdsk /? to see the options) and then reboot. I hope you can find out what's wrong.Good Luck,Jim

Hey Guys:I fixed the problem by removing the FS9.cfg file and 3 suspected bad panels and FS9 booted up without a hitch. Now by process of elimination I will reintroduce the panels one by one and see which one is crashing the sim. Thanks for your help!http://southwest.corpmerchandise.com/image...l/200015138.gifAlex ChristoffN562ZBaltimore, MD
