Flight Director behaviour

Featured Replies

Hi guys, just want to ask if the FD behaviour I noticed in the Sperry 177 version is correct, today, on my first test flight, during the approach to the destination airport, I decided to practice an ILS approach with the autopilot ON, VOR LOC and APP engaged, once stablished on the localizer and the glide slope alive, the plane began descending to runway, but, the flight director was showing me a pitch of 10 degrees nose up, same happened after disengaging the AP to do a manual landing, so, there is no FD indication for any deviation in the Glide Slope path, the V bars remain showing a 10 degrees pitch up.... later, doing more tests, I noticed that the only way to make the V bars to help me in the same scenario, was engaging the vertical speed function on the MCP and selecting an specific vertical speed, for example -700fpm with the AP disengaged of course, is this behavior correct? or I am missing something?

Sounds like you're in Go Around mode. Check for the green Go Around light on the APD. If it's on (it should not be unless you've toggled it on and are executing a go around), click on the GA icon to toggle it back off. Also, in the 732 you don't use GA mode for takeoff--it's GA mode, not TOGA mode.RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO

Hi Bob, thanks for your answer, as far as I can remember there were no green light on for the GA mode on the APD, but I do remember that I was approaching with the GA mode engaged in the PDSC, "my mistake" ...I suposse that's the reason I was getting that indication.Happy New Year 2011.Tony

Tony...having the PDCS in GA mode during an approach is correct...it doesn't drive the flt director.RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO
