October 30, 200322 yr So, here is my story. I'm a college kid in the midst of flying lessons (when i can afford them!), and i picked up FS9 as a fun flight-oriented distraction. I ended up getting hooked, and played a lot of FS9. Then the fall semester cranked up and kept me away from my sim for a long time.I had just been getting into the file library before i took my hiatus, and I hadn't gotten far. I had downloaded the Fokker Project planes, and a large number of paints, as well as the meljet 777 for 2004.Now, when i start my game, i get two error messages, one saying that FSSound.dll is broken (or something) and that FSUIPC.dll is broken (or something). If i choose to disable the dlls, my game crashes if i try to fly the fokker. if not, i can fly it, but most of the panel lcds don't work.First thing, are these fixable problems? the fokker was for FS2002, i now realize. Second, and important question:What files should i be getting? I have no problem paying for something amazing, but freeware is always a plus. I'm seeing links to updated water textures, updated planes, guages, etc. I'm sort of lost. Can anyone reccomend some fun scenery, some fun planes (that will work) maybe some new sounds, good paints, and just general things that i shouldn't be without? Thanks.Oh, and has anyone fixed Long Island, NY? it's made of giant blocks of land. go look at KMTP for reference (i think it's KMTP... just type in "Montauk")Double Thanks.
October 30, 200322 yr Hello SpiffaeThis may be the answer to your FSSound.dll & FSUIPC.dll problem. The installation of the Fokker model "may" install the freeware FSUIPC into your FS2004Modules folder. This freeware FSUIPC unfortunately does not work in FS2004 and therefore the EPR readouts from the engine CRT and SEI gauges will not work. The only fix is to purchase the payware FSUIPC. If you can live without the EPR readings, than you don't need to purchase the payware FSUIPC. You can get it at http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html.Open the folder:C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9Modules (or use your own specific assigned drive and folder) and look for the file with the name FSUIPC.dll, it should be there! a) If you had a working FSUIPC for FS2004 (payware version) than no action is needed here. Goto step 4 :( If you did not purchased the payware FSUIPC for FS2004 than delete the file FSUIPC.dll now. c) If you do not know what this is all about, than delete the file FSUIPC.dll anyway.I found this at http://fokker.avsim.net/fs9-support.htmFor some fun scenery check out Emma Field by Lago.http://www.lagoonline.com/ENG/prodotti/pdt.asp?id=100004You can hear all kinds of sounds from birds to a guy cutting the grass. At certian times of the evening when you fly in you will see a party going on. There is even a web site for it at http://emmafield.simflight.com/Hope this helpsDanny:-beerchug
October 30, 200322 yr FSSound.dll is not FS9 compatible - just add the line FSsound.dll=1 to the {oldmodules} section of your fs9.cfg file (use square brackets, not those - this forum can display them)(and if you don't know where fs9.cfg, see the first sticky at the top of this forum). Also, its a good idea to install the latest FSUIPC.dll to your FS9/modules folder anyway - the newest version (3.11) improves memory usage and frequency of weather updates (read = better frame rate).Good luck!sg [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
October 30, 200322 yr Thanks guys! Any recommendations on where to start with paints, scenery, planes, or other updates? Anything i shouldn't be living without?
October 30, 200322 yr Hello Danny,I see you are recommending Emma Field by LAGO for FS2004. Has Emma Field been updated for FS9 by LAGO yet? I wouldn't mind getting it myself(I have Georender 1 and 6) but I don't think Emma's been updated yet. And the link you gave still shows that it's for FS2002, not FS2004. If it has been updated please show me where I can confirm this and I will purchase it.Thanks,Jim
