January 3, 201115 yr Can anyone with great knowledge help me. I have just started out trying to fly using the g1000 in the quest kodiak plane, and have started learning how to fly a ils approach into an airport,(am total beginner), and have had great success in landing using autopilot to guide me to and into a teardrop approach, before switching to nav1 and using the glide scope to bring me down to the runway before switching off the autopilot and landing manually. The problem Im facing now is that when i tried a ils into le guardia using ils approach when setting up the g1000 for the approach once I select approach and and select ils 22, I dont get the option of selecting a localiser for horizontal and vertical assistance, like the example flight I have used from kapf to krsw i downloaded off the internet. Instead all i can choose is vectors, and from that point on im baffled, am I meant to be using ATC for the approach(something I havent tackled yet, but would like to). I am still learning and appriciate I am probably missing something very simple, can anyone help. Also from the approach chart that I have downloaded for this approach I am not sure how to read the chart properly, not for the lack of trying, and am not sure if entering the localizer i-urd on freq 110.5 ON NAV1 is correct..Please put me ou of my misery and show me the error of my ways.JOHNBOY.....
January 3, 201115 yr You need to practice with thhe default 737 until you learn the details and limits.ILS Procedure for FSX (practice) at KSEA:Set COm1 to Tower 119.9.Set NAV1 to ILS RWY 34 RT 110.3.Set NAV2 to ILS RWY 34 LT 117.1. (Both DMEs the same)1. Taxi B737 to position and hold Rwy 34 RT.2. Set ILS freq. for rwy 34 in NAV1 110.3.3. Set AP HDG to 343, ALT to 5000, and AT AS to 250.4. Takeoff. Set AP/HDG/ALT/AT to ON.5. Turn HDG to 168. Aircraft will turn to 168 and level off at 5000.6. At 23 miles DME, turn HDG to 003 and AT AS to 190. (The LOC needle will stay active to about 25 Miles). When the DME reads about 20 miles the Glideslope (GS) needle will go active and peg to the top of the guage and the BELOW G/S light will coe ON.7. Set APP to ON. The aircraft will turn to center the LOC needle and HDG will dis-engage. The GS needle will slowly come down and center. The ALT will dis-engage.8. Drop 3 clicks of flaps, Set AT AS to 160. Drop gear. The aircraft will fly 2.5 degree slope.9. Set AT AS to 150. Add flaps slowly to Full DN.10. At 100 feet, dis-engage AT and close power levers.11. Flare/land.I do a touch and go to try it again.Have funDaveIntel Core I7 975 Quadcore OC @ 3.75 Ghz (Air)Asus P6T DLX V2 X58 1366, BD Combo Plextor B310SA6GB (3x2GB) Corsair Dominator DDR3 1866C7GTHIS ATI 4890 1GB, Samsung 24", Saitek X-52 ProLogitech Z680 5.1 Speakers, G15 Keyboard, G5 MouseThermaltake Element S Case, Corsair 850HX PSUC: Intel 80GB SSD w/Windows 7 Home 64D: WD 300GB Velocity Raptor w/FSX+Accel+GEX, F4AFE: WD 1TB Caviar Black w/Data SH4
January 3, 201115 yr Author THANKS FOR REPLY OLDMAINTCHEF, Can you explain why I need to do this in a another aircraft, I tend to use the kodiak a;- BECAUSE IT HAS THE G1000 iM TRYING TO LEARN AND B:- KNOW WHERE ALL THE KNOBS ETC ARE. Without seeming ungrateful I was rather hoping for an explanation to my problem as to why when setting up for an approach why autopilot doesnt follow a teradrop procedure, I am now thinking that there is no teardrop on thin ils app runway 22, am I right.
January 3, 201115 yr I don't have the G100 so I can't answer questions about it. Using a default aircraft means the FSX Help section has a lot of the answers that apply across all aircraft.I don't know what you mean by a "teardrop"? Some approaches have a racetrack with procedure turns and a missed approach.Pilots go to school to learn basic procedures in a basic aircraft. Once they master this, they move to more advanced aircraft/systems. The practice mission I set up was to learn the basic concepts and visualize the limits of the ILS system in FSX. If you had problems with this then I could answer the questions.Dave
January 3, 201115 yr Author Thanks Dave for that, I understand fully where your coming from and completly agree, I will go away and practice that flight with the 737,my only reservations are that I have never flown a 737 before on the simulator so will have to perservere whole heartidly, and get back to you tomorrow to let you know how I get on.Appreciating that a real (not virtual) trainee pilot takes years to learn all the skills needed to take to the skys, am I expecting too much from myself when trying to interpret several different airport approach plates, whether in my world the u.k. or somewhere like the states, as I READ AND READ none of the explanations I read give me a clear defined understanding of how to setup an approach for a landingf from an individual plate ?. There does not seem to be any kind of standard //.John
January 4, 201115 yr You can use the C172. It will just be very slow. Practice until you get the feel of what the aircraft is doing. Reading Approach Plates is whole new lesson. The plate will tell you how to enter the pattern. If you are on s flight plan, ATC will direct you to a course and altitude to enter the pattern. Enter the pattern below the glidescope (needle up) or it won't lock on.Dave
