January 5, 201115 yr I just have a quick question... On the MD 11 when you drop first flap, after that I'm unable to use the speed brakes... Is this normal for the MD 11 because I dont know any other way to add drag during descent....but thx for those who can answer this...Carlitos Colon
January 5, 201115 yr Hi carlitos, that's correct behaviour. Because it's a fairly 'slippery' airplane, the MD11 can put you in a position where you are too high and too fast. With slats/flaps out, the best way to introduce drag from that point onwards is to lower the gear. Just make sure you're under the max speed to lower gear. (look for the green 'GE' indication on the speed tape. Mark Adeane - NZWN

January 5, 201115 yr Commercial Member Thx for the quick reply... just making sure it was proper behavior...It is, the speed brake lever is mechanically blocked once your flaps are out. However, if you have speed brakes extended and THEN lower flaps, this is not blocked and you'll get a level 2 alert saying your speed brakes are out. So it is possible to have both out, but that is not a valid procedure on the MD-11.Regards,Markus Markus Burkhard
