January 13, 201115 yr Hi GuysIn case you may have overlooked it, a few days ago there was a new freeware aircraft posted on AVSIM. It is a CR42, a biplane fighter that was used by the Reggio Aeronautica during WWII. (As well as by the Belgians, the Swedes and the Luftwaffe and also in the Spanish Civil War by the Nationalists - all these are modelled)The file is cr42_v01.zip. A number of distinctly different versions are modelled and a huge number of different paint schemes. The exterior model is stunning as are the sounds, the VC is excellent and it is loads of fun to fly and VERY challenging to land. :( Check it out. We all have different tastes of course, but if you love doing aerobatics or just getting the feel of one of the last biplanes ever to be built, I think this one is a real winnerIan

You need to bleed off your airspeed until you are right on the edge of the stall on approach. (It makes a rather loud pre-stall "burble" sound so you will know when you're there!) Because it has no flaps this slow approach will give you a very high nose up attitude making it almost impossible to see the runway. (Just like an AT6/Harvard in the real world BTW) So you will need to weave gently on approach so you can stay lined up on the runway by looking out the side. I mean gently - you'll stall if you are not very smooth in those turns! Flare smoothly and if you are close enough to the stall it will settle nicely with you watching the runway edge out the side to stay straight. You have to 3 point it - if you try a wheel landing you will float forever unless you're landing into a gale. It really is a challenge - I have lots of real world time in tail draggers and nothing else in FS9 that I've tried really matches it. (The RAS Spitfire comes closest - especially for take off)Try spinning it too - it is very realistic and can be quite vicious but it responds to conventional spin recovery. It is an absolute delight to do aerobatics in - one of the few FS aircraft I have ever tried that will do a perfect Immelman or stall turn, rolls nicely and turns on a dime. (Just as the RW aircraft was reputed to do)It's freeware - it's excellent - I hope lots of people will give it a try. I am finding it the most addictive download I've done in a long time. BTW, I do not know the author and am not "pushing anything" - I just think it's a great product that might get overlooked. (Bear - where are you???? You would love this one!!!)Ian
January 15, 201115 yr I can certainly see why you're enthusiastic about this one. It's clearly a labor of love! Lots of neat little details. I don't have time to go into detail at the moment but I'm loving it. BTW, I don't particularly care for aircraft, scenery and whatnot that want to replace default files (gauges). But it seems to work fine without them :( .Cheers.................Todd
January 15, 201115 yr Hello,Indeed it's a very nice plane :( Video:http://simtube.com/video/4393/Falco-TributeRegards.Gus.

I was impressed at the end when you seemed to actually succeed in doing a wheel landing instead of 3 point. But I was flying it off a couple of addon airfields that are WWII replicas with fairly short, grass strips and I found that it just wouldn't stop flying before I ran out of room. :(
