748F Engine Textures and Alpha troubles

Featured Replies

I've been repainting my new 8F in the UIA Cargo colors and I had a couple of questions.I painted the fuselage and saved it as a DTX5 with Mips checked and it shows up in FSX, but it's too shiny. I thought this may be because I had the Mips checked when I saved it so I re-saved it with the Mips Un-checked, but the aircraft shows up black. I also understand that the alpha maps effect the shininess of the aircraft, but I did take them from the original PMDG texture set, so I wouldn't think that was the problem.Does WHITE make it shiny and BLACK makes it flat? I can't remember.:( It's been too long. Also, the 744 re-paint kit has engine nacelle in PSP format, but the 748 does not. Is there a reason for this?!?! I'd love to adjust my nacelle colors, but I hate to do it the hard way.I just wanted to add that I'm using the Dxtbmp tool to convert my textures.Any help would be greatly appreciated.John Hundley

Well, it seems as though both the PMDG Pax & Freight Maps wont open with PSP, but all of their templates do :( That doesn't make a lot of sence seeing as how they are all PSD files and PSP can open that file type. Thats why I couldn't find the engine nacelle templates, by the way.dry.gif The question is...'How do I get PSP to open the map file?'.:(

Well, here is my version of the UIA 748F (If there were one). She flies the UIA Girl on her side.

Hi John,Based on what I have found, it appears to me the Freighter Map .psd file is way too big. The version of that file in the paintkit is well over 81Mb and PSP and just can't handle it. I also found similar issues with Paint.Net although GIMP seems to work OK.My solution was to load up the Freighter Map file in GIMP and modify some of the layers (merge some of the less important ones -my choice) and I managed to get the Freighter Map file down to 69Mb. Wtih this done, I could then load this into PSP. BTW- I running PhotoX3 with the latest updates.BTW2- I did raise a support ticket for this, but I never got a final solution although there did appear to be some acknowdgement that the size of the paint kit files ) as say compared to the -400 painkit) increased significantly. As you said, PSP fully supports layers and the other paint kits have worked fine.Good work with the paint by the way. Nice job!Best RegardsMark

Thanks, Mark! That's good to know! I do have PhotoShop, but I never thought of merging layers to make it smaller. Even though I can open it with PhotoShop, I'd much rather work it in PaintShopPro. lol! To me, it's more user friendly. But no matter...you've been a GREAT help! Thanks again,John
