DVD drive for new configuration

Featured Replies

I am upgrading my PC this weekend from an older Q6600 quad to an i7. I noted, looking at the new mobo manual, that there are no IDE connectors such as I am using now in the older system for the DVD drives. Seems there are only SATA connectors. Do I need a new DVD drive, or is there an IDE-to-SATA adaptor? Any advice on what is the best way to go?Thanks, Bruce.

You would be better off just buying a Sata DVD drive and hard drives. IDE is old school and not used anymore. Plus SATA doesn't require jumpers.I have no idea if they sell converters.

There are a whole bunch of them at Amazon. Just make sure you get the one converting an IDE drive to SATA and not the other way around :-)But as the previous poster recommended, I'd get a new SATA DVD drive and get it over with. They are ridiculously cheap. Cheers,- jahman.
