January 20, 201115 yr Hi allI have not built a computer in a few years and am looking to upgrade to a system to carry me on for another 5 years. Here is what I have pieced together on newegg.ca.Any insight appreciated. Please let me know if I can upgrade anything to make a better system. I am skeptical on the ram as to what to use.Core i7-2600k Sandy BridgeMSI P67-GD65 LGA 1155Corsair 850W P/SArctic Silver 5 compoundCOOLER MASTER V8 120mm rifle CPU CoolerThermal take V3 black edition caseSeagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB Sata 3.0 GIGABYTE GEFORCE GTX 580 1538MB DDR5Creative X-Fi titanium Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 6GB DDR3 1600
January 20, 201115 yr Hi,Your ram needs to be dual channel ram. Get 8GB Mushkin Redline 1600MHz CL6 at 1.65V. On a Sandy Bridge, this can be run at 1600MHz CL7 at 1.5V. For a bigger OC, get a better cooler such as the Noctua NH-D14 or the Corsair H70 Liquid Cooling. Instead of one 1.5TB HD, get a 450GB 10,000RPM Velociraptor dedicated for FSX, and a 1TB Western digital Caviar Black 7200RPM SATAIII 64MB. Those drives are a lot faster than what you chose. Sound cards aren't really necessary, the onboard sound on these mobo's are really good. The case you chose is pretty low standard and probably too small for your graphics card. Get something like the Antec 902 or 1200, or the Coolermaster HAF X.
January 30, 201115 yr Another good store in Canada is http://ncix.com/If I was you I would also get a SSD for FSX. It really helps FSX run smooth. No delays in textures loading. I use the 120GB Corsair Force Series SSD. Its on sale for $199 at http://ncix.com/. Pete Pete Richards I've owned every version of flight simulator since Flight Simulator 3.0 in 1988. Windows 11 Pro loaded on a 4TB Gen5 Crucial T700 SSD, 4TB Samsung 990 Pro SSD, Ryzen 9 7950x3d, AS Rock X670e Taichi Motherboard, Gigabyte Gaming RTX 4090 OC 24GB, 64GB (2x32GB) Viper Venom DDR5-6000MT/s, MSI 32" MAG 321UPX QD-OLED 260hz 4K Gaming Monitor.
