Nvidia 40.41 - enable built in refresh rate tweaks...

Hey All,While it is impossible to figure out who came up with this first (credit is flying everywhere of course), someone did the sensible deed and opened up the new Nvidia Detonator Driver control panel in a resource viewer. Looks like there's more than a few hidden gems in there, a few for NForce users only.But, for everyone, theres an EXCELLENT new feature thats been needed from Nvidia forever: a built in Direct3D refresh rate fixer. While works great and should probably continue to be used by the majority, this may be a better solution for some since it comes directly from Nvidia:http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3d7043c05201c1d7.gifThe "CoolBits" registry entry is what enables this, but it has been changed in the latest drivers. Once enabled, you gain access to the above by viewing the Direct3D settings in the standard Nvidia driver, then click the More Direct3D button. This is what enables the refresh rate page. The NvCplEnableAGP is what enables the AGP tweak page of course. If you don't like manually messing around in Registry Editor, these are for you. Hi Elrond,do you know how you make the hardwarepage work?Are there plug-ins for different chipsets?I would relly like to be able to change the aperture size frm windows. I know you can do it with WPCREdit but that is kind of nto very elegant.As you seem to always know everything :-) I thought I would just fire away.Thx,Alex

Hmmm, how come it doesn't let you change the refresh rate for 800x600?

Would like to know if this 4.0 driver is for XP/2000 only or if I can use it for 98SE, running TI 4600, Athlon 1.4, 512 DDR

Hi Alex,Unfortunately, the hardware page is for Nforce chipsets only. Seems to be the same for the AGP page. Too bad too, because both of them are extremely useful. Hopefully Nvidia will have them working on all chipsets when the 40's come out of beta.As for changing the aperture size from windows, here's a chance to prove that I don't know everything :-)... Beyond the BIOS, I'm not aware of any safe way to change the aperture from windows. While WPCR can indeed do it, it most assuredly is not a safe program for the vast majority of users. I believe its because I had already changed 800x600 to a refresh rate that Nvidia's tool doesn't support (170Hz) using Refresh Force. I use such a high refresh rate at 800x600 for Stereo viewing. At the moment, the 40's are in beta only for XP and Win2000. It doesn't give me the option to change 800x600 either. I don't run any programs in 800x600, but the menu in FS runs in that res.
