Hello, everybody! How to use DXTbmp? I´m working in pullmantur air, PMDG 747, and I need delp. Greetings.

Look first and ask later.............!At his forum we have a Painting FAQ`s department.Ment to be of great help for (beginning) painters. When we repaint we often use DXTBmp so its not unlikely to find explanation about DXTBmp in a repaint-tutorial.Go to the Repaint FAQ`s look under tutorials and use the link to Morgan Dainows tutorial.you`ll find info about DXTBmp there.Big question remaining..........why did`nt you search the internet first ? ? ? Google...........How to use DXTBmp.How to (whatever your question is.....?) works like a charm in Google ! ! !Neverteheless please read Morgans tutorial completely.Good luckLeen de Jager

here's the Cliff's Notes version:1) In your graphics editing program (such as Photoshop) save your file as a 32 bit targa w/ alpha channel.2) In DXTBmp, File/open the targa in DXTBmp3) File/Save As/Extended Bitmap4) Save as type: DXT35) Rename the file and replace the original file.5 easy steps!Happy painting :)

Alltough not complete ,this answer is basicly correct ( for FS8 and earlier ,besides many other PC games), its preferable to read the available documentation.Saving files as DXT3 is not a rule anymore , its just one of the (lesser used) available filetypes in flightsim. To wich filetype we should save depends on the model and type of flightsim. ( and the quality we want as well)Saving the files as the same file-type as the ones from the original plane is the best way to avoid problems.Saving with or without mip-maps is not mentioned ,generally spoken its better not to use them for FS9, for FSX it depends on various factors. The whole procedure about importing existing files from a model in DXTBmp and sending them ( and their alphalayers) to the paintprogram ,importing them back in DXTBmp and saving them, is not mentioned.Nevertheless thats to most common way for starting repainters. The best way to start repainting is just doing some excersises with the default Cessna 172.A starting newbie building-contractor`s first project never is a sky-scraper.Load the files in DXTBmp, export them from DXTBmp to Paintshop,Gimp,Photoshop whatever, edit them and import them back in DXTBmp and save them (back-up the default 172 FIRST!!!).We do not know wich sim (FS9 or FSX ) our new member Boeing 787-8 is talking about , he simply did not tell us.Telling him to save the files as DXT3 could make him very confused and unhappy when he is working on a FSX plane. Then he might think "I am doing as told and it does not work" and spend hours and hours on trying without any succes.Time he`d better spent on reading the tutorials. Please be careful giving answers.Just quoting somebody elses answer whithout not really knowing ( or telling ) whats all about. Please don`t?I appreciate your good intentions.Leen de Jager

Thank you for correcting me, Leen. I should have made clear my assumptions prior to my post: 1) That he was familiar with using his graphics editing program and unfamiliar with DXTBmp2) That he was using the paint kit provided by PMDG 3) That he was using the plane in FS94) That he wasn't looking for long, drawn-out instructions. In all fairness, though, comparing the difference between repainting the default Cessna and using PMDG's paint kit to the complexity of designing a sky-scraper is a big stretch. Unlike designing a sky-scraper, PMDG's paint kit is easy to understand and thoughtfully laid out. The only complexity I see is that the process is repeated more...not that it is actually more difficult.

No problem at all.I think we had a different approach. My assumptions prior to my post:1. He is a "newbie" at AVSIM without any repaint-experience.*If he had, he should have been familiar with DXTBmp in the first place. When somebody is experienced in working with a complex painting-program like Photoshop, it will take that person only a few minutes to explore and understand the program DXTBmp.2. He probably has the original paintkit.3*. Someone needs drawn-out instructions to make the right start.Wich in my perspective means not only DXTBmp, but also general repainting tutorials are very handy.4. Painting a big aircraft like the 747 is more complex than the Cessna 172.Herewith I am not saying the painting itself is more difficult , painting long lines is as difficult as short lines. No, the huge amount of different texturefiles and the fact we have to cut-up a totalfuse ( wich is very simple to paint actually)into different texturesheets , makes it unsuitable ( al least not advisable ) for a real beginner to start with.Thats why my advise to Boeing 787-8 is :Go into the books first and start with something simple like the default Cessna 172.BTWI have some experience with repainting and I can tell you for sure there are many GA for flightsim wich are far more complicated texturewise ( making correct joints and determing "what`s where") then the, what I call "sigar-paintings".The most complicated paints I did were GA.I did big-ones as well , they never thrilled me as much a the GA.Best regardsLeen de Jager

Well, I´ve experience with GIMP, but I made liveries for flightgear flight simulator (It´s free), and how to make paintings fs and fg, is very different. One of my FG´s liveries. http://img185.images...fsscreen098.pngAnd... I use PMDG 744, and fs9. Whistle.gif

I have no experience in painting for Flightgear.Your Flightgear paint looks fine. When I ussumed you are not an experienced repainter (sin pintar la experiencia) I ment to refer on painting for MSFS only.I must say its really new to me seeing my text translated into Spanish in such a real nice way.I assumed ( and I was not the only one) you were painting with Photoshop instead of Gimp.Gimp is the best freewaree paintprogram I know, alltough Paint.net is`nt bad at all.I like painters being active on several platforms.Personally I am mostly active in painting for X-Plane these days.I painted for Fly, FlyII, FS9,FSX and nowadays for X-Plane.Cordial abrazoLeen de Jager
