February 10, 201115 yr Hi, guys. Can i please ask how i use ATIS (for arrivals) in ASE (SP2)?This is my understanding:Enter the departure ID, destination ID, etc. in the Briefing screen.Tune to 122.0 or 122.02(?), and when i am in range, the ATIS will start? Neither frequencies are giving me the runway to use for landing, even though dep and dest are set.So ASE 'knows' what ATIS to give me based on the briefing when i am tuned to one of the above frequencies? So technically i wouldnt need to retune to get both departure AND destination ATIS broadcast?I would like to get the destination ATIS a lot sooner than the default FSX ATIS kicks in! :) What is the range of the ASE ATIS? February 11, 201115 yr I believe the ATIS provided by tuning 122.02 (assuming you input the departure/destination airports in the Briefing tool) in ASE is not range dependent like FSX ATIS, but can be used anytime in flight, no matter how far you are from the destination. I like to think of it as similar to the real world airlines that have ACARS where they can obtain this information by satelite datalink, bypassing the range limitation of using the radio ATIS of older times. If you choose 122.00 you will get the ATIS report for the nearest airfield (the airport in the "lock to closest" station in the report screen). The caveat with this approach is that you must use ASE'S DWC (Direct Wind Control), and as you mentioned above ASE ATIS 122.02 will not give you the runway assignments. That is for you to decide based on the winds given by that report. The FSX default ATIS using the real world frequencies are range dependent (I think you have to be within 60-100 NM of the airfield) and the runway assignment may be incorrect since DWC applies the weather at your current altitude globally. This means at your TOD of cruise altitude, the high velocity winds and low temperatures are going to be reported by FSX ATIS at the ground level of your destination. So basically, you should use the ASE ATIS function to get a real time feed of the actual airport weather and decide the likely runway based on that information. The real world ATIS frequency can be selected, but it's reported weather conditions are unreliable until you get very close to the airfield.Hope that makes sense. A.J. Domingo
