February 12, 201115 yr I have been thinking of upgrading my ATI 4870 1Gb to a faster card now that I am running REX and ORBX addons. The prices for a 6850 1GB and a GTX 460 1GB are very close. Any recommendations on which card to buy? My Gigabyte MB is set up for Crossfire, but since Crossfire or SLI dont help a lot in FSX, I am assuming I can go with either. Any help is appreciated.Dreamflyer OverAMD Phenom II X4 955 Black @ 3.8 MhzGigabyte GA-MA790GPT-UD3H4 GB Corsair MemoryXFX 4870 1 GBWindows XP Pro
February 12, 201115 yr Unfortunately I can't comment on the 6850 as I have been using various NVidia cards over several years. However the system I use today is quite similar to yours and it's equipped with a Gigabyte GTX 460 with 1GB of memory. It handles things quite well at 1920x1080x32, 8XS aliasing with NVInspector, scenery and AG at Very Dense. I also use HD clouds set at maximum density and GEX USA textures. Anyway, thought I'd give a little input that may be of some help. Good luck! February 14, 201115 yr Thanks GregDoes Windows 7 make a big differance in running FSX on your machine? I have been thinking about upgrading.Rich
February 14, 201115 yr Yea, but Win7-64bit was an upgrade from XP-32bit. Load times are much faster and visually I find it more pleasing, but overall FS performance is not hugely different. The old 32-bit XP did well but it was time to refresh...and it was a good move.
