Arcing 800

Featured Replies

Hi All,If anyone has a few tips for the correct -800 settings from BASAL int to MAP point it would make intersting reading for me.In particular, can I tune two references for the VCV vor namely the 055 on one display and the 001 or 352 radials on another? The explanation I got from LAATCC website is for cockpits with two analogue VOR clocks I think,. Lastly, do you know the usual speeds for the arc only.PDF attachment will assist. All good advice welcome,Berne

In the real world, you would select the VOR17 on the APP page and the TRNDL transition and then use LNAV/VNAV.If you wanted to do it without LNAV. . . You could do it all with one VOR. Select and fly the 235 course inboundLead your turn by about 10% of your Groundspeed. (Let's say 180Knts = 1.8NM), so at 15.3 miles turn right and follow the arc with the RMI or the VOR needles on your Nav display. While you're following the 13.5DME arc, set your course selector to the 172 Final Approach Course. When the RMI says you're on the 001 Lead Radial, turn to an intercept heading and arm the VOR-LOC and fly it inbound. You really don't need two separate references with the VOR on the RMI or ND.

Hi,Thank you, any chance of pics for the RMI VOR advice?Berne

This isn't a bad description:http://www.nevergetlost.at/english/pdf/109.pdfI taught IFR students before I went to the airlines, and it takes a while to understand a visualize. Heck, I flew with a airline Captain who had no clue on how to fly a DME arc with an RMI. I had coach her through the approach. Hypnotized.gif
