February 23, 201115 yr Hello everyone - I'm having some issues with scenery in FSX that I'd like to get your feedback on. This is not a design question, so perhaps it belongs elsewhere (my apologies if that's the case), but I thought the design experts' opinions could be valuable here.Attached, and (I hope) below are 4 screen shots I took while flying yesterday that are typical of the types of annomalies I see on a much too regular basis. I did a great deal of searching and reading, and then realized that I don't really know what to search for, because I don't know what to call these "things." I'd like to know...1. What are the technical terms for what you see here?2. What are the causes?3. How do I correct them? (maybe this belongs elsewhere since it's more about tweaking)These occurred in FSX/SP2 with most of the scenery complexity sliders near max, and terrain mesh set to 2m. I've tried ansiotropic and trilinear filtering and neither corrected the problem. Anti-aliasing in these pics was off, but I have run with that on as well and seen similar. Let me know if you need any further information. Thanks for your time!ScottNote the spikes on the right and the "triangle" on the left.Ground rising and "folding" in the red box on the left side of the pic.Not sure what to say about this one.No fog here. The sky just becomes engulfed in wildly shifting polygons (note red box on left side of pic).
February 23, 201115 yr Hello Scott,I believe that this has often turned out to be due to memory problems of some sort.Perhaps you could try the following: go to all the Display options pages and click on the "Reset Default" buttons, then see if the problems have gone away.Best regards.Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
February 24, 201115 yr Luis - Thanks for the suggestion. I wound up just scrapping my .cfg file and starting from scratch. Just for my future reference, what do designers call these anomalies?Scott
February 24, 201115 yr Hello Scott,Deleting the cfg file is the same as clicking on the "Reset Defaults" buttons, except that you can do the latter from within FS and see immediate results.I don't know that there is any specialized terminology among the community besides "memory problems", often due to excessively high display settings.Best regards.Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
February 25, 201115 yr these are generally known as "graphics tearing". You can also call them "artifacts" Drew Sikora Staff Blog Founder/Designer, MSE Airports
