February 23, 201115 yr Morning First and foremost, to the PMDG team, you have landed a customer for life. I only have the MD11, but will definitely be getting the NGX and whatever follows. I have a few other products, all of which are great, but all fall short of this simulation. Again, a job well done.I was watching NOVA last night on AF 447 and the scenarios the crew faced on that night of hell. I was also reading on the other A330 incidents with the pitots and such and it got me thinking - I would like to simulate this scenario and others. Now, I haven't put a great deal of time into setting up the scenario, but I would imagine I would fail the pitot tubes or if this was not an option, fail the CADCs. My question though is more general: are there any downloads or things of the like to simulate different kinds of emergencies. I mean, I know each of us can create any scenario we want, but does anyone know of a site or package you can get that will tell you exactly how to simulate failures that actually happened? For example, Swissair 111, the Air Transat fuel leak incident, perhaps the recent A380 episodes with Qantas, etc. I realize these are different a/c with different systems, but i think you get my point. Is there any thing that will set these up for you or tell you exactly how to simulate it through the PMDG M11 failure simulator? I searched the forum and had no success.A quick disclaimer: I realize this topic is sensitive and for any insensitivity that comes across - that's not my intention. Anyways, if people have any ideas or knowledge to this question, I'd appreciate it. William EzzellKATL
February 23, 201115 yr It must be interesting to find pre-packed download for a specific scenario...but i think that a similar thing is not available for FS.You can always read about any investigation using the official reports, and then try to recreate the scenario setting up time, location, weather and failures...PMDG has a good failure module for its MD11 and the coming NGX will be better. I guess if this idea of create predifined scearios can be done.Except for the real world related things, i think that can be very interesting in system and procedures related operations...Cheers, Paolo Fumagalli "Everyday is a new flight, with new system to learn, new failures to prevent and new database to update..."
February 23, 201115 yr Author Thanks for the replyYeah it looks like, given the lack of responses and from your knowledge, that I am gonna have to research the specific chain of events and then implement them myself. Ugh. Anyways thanks again! William EzzellKATL
February 23, 201115 yr I recreated only one time an emergency scenario...The one happened in Madrid with the MD80 of Spanair...I used to fill FS with the data coming from the official report like weather, time, airplane setting and specific items not available to the flight. It was a long preparation; in fact, i never done it again...too much preparation work...Cheers, Paolo Fumagalli "Everyday is a new flight, with new system to learn, new failures to prevent and new database to update..."

Anyways, if people have any ideas or knowledge to this question, I'd appreciate it.Very interesting idea. Based on what i've read on real aviation sites, for instance PPrune, these scenariors are recreated in level -d simulators to teach real world pilots. Our problem is the fidelity of Flight Simulator and the addon aircraft we use. Can a desktop pc really be used to recreate a simulation of any such scenario to a high enough degree? P.S I also saw the AF 447 PBS episode. Alex Cadle

Yes, PMDG and other company have done amazing jobs with the FDEs but you will never achieve exact performances like the real world, for a series of reasons. But i think that in a simple technical way, the emergencies can be fully recreated. Thanks to PMDG we have high fidelity systems and operating functions.Cheers, Paolo Fumagalli "Everyday is a new flight, with new system to learn, new failures to prevent and new database to update..."
