  1. There is a user on here that compiled an excel spreadsheet for takeoff performance calculations with the LR, F, and W versions. It's great. I have it saved on my home computer. Prior, I had a few assumed temp takeoffs at places like LTBA where I realized I desperately needed something (I hit V1 at the main touchdown keys on the far end of the runway!) I replied to another Topcat thread not too long ago - it's beyond me that they do not have a 300ER profile. Are there profiles to add to Topcat for the PMDG 77W? Like profiles that can be added to PFPX (since they're both Flightsimsoft)
  2. Ha seriously? They don't even have the 77W on that thing? I've beat myself up for months on whether to jump for it and after learning this I feel zero remorse. Wow.
  3. There is some stuff you can do. 1) As Dan said, you can look at a higher resolution monitor. As for the one you have, tinker around with all of its settings if you haven't already. I learned that FSX pretty much blows at night, so there is only so much you can do. 2) Nvidia Inspector. Take a look at Ryan's pinned thread on the general forum. It's dated and has been ongoing for years. The settings are probably somewhat unreliable today as Inspector has been upgraded. Regardless, Ryan's post is a great source for teaching you about the ins and outs of graphics card operations. 3) Google inspector / fsx / pmdg / 777 etc. You will find good screenshots for settings to try. Bottom line: you will have to read this to LEARN how to use Inspector. Ultimately, everyone's machine is somewhat different. You just have to trial and error to figure out what works best (balancing with performance). 4) Search the forums, pretty sure Kyle posted a few helpful things on this topic. This is not the first time it's been raised. In fact, I may have started a thread on this same thing years ago. Ultimately, like Dan said, you will hit a limit. For example, you will eventually see the crazy display effects when you keep zooming out.

KATL has more real world options than you might think. First, great cargo options like yall discussed above. I am not picky in terms of exact reality when it comes to DL flights. I use PMDG 777 with all 764 and 763 flights. If you think about it, there isn't too much difference between a 777 and 764 when it comes to substitutes. There are other carriers perfect for a PMDG KATL combo, including: Turkish operates a 77W to LTBA, Qatar operates a 77L to OTHH. BA operates a "77L" (200ER in RW). I've also subbed a 77L for Virgin's A330 and 77W for A346 and a Lufthansa 77L for their A330/340 EDDF route. Finally, KAL and Air France come to mind but these two rotate their equipment frequently. Air France has been using a 77W I think this summer. They also fly in 200ERs. KAL operates a direct to Seoul (I think its a 748, was an A388, before that 744 and has also been 777-200ER) which could be subbed with a KAL77W.

Awesome. Yeah keep me posted. Looking forward to having gates work with my PMDG 777 at my home field.
  6. wde12 replied to Zuendholz's topic in PMDG 777
When you say "the issue was as he described" do you mean that the issue is resolved or that many gates are still saying door too high (because of the geometric limits of gates to begin with)?

Thanks for the heads up - just saw Jeffrey's file. I am at work today so it will be awhile, but I will keep you posted.

Have fun. I contacted ImagineSim here: https://www.facebook.com/795499297198912/photos/a.795502433865265.1073741828.795499297198912/1063783100370529/?type=3&theater As you can see, they got super defensive and ###### off. "No way it's their problem" They have caught a ton of heat over the years for their products. I get why, they aren't on Flightbeam / Taxi2Gate / FlyTampa level. But I still don't like the criticism because we need as many developers as we can get in this community. I don't want to prove them wrong here. I want to be constructive (if the problem is indeed ImagineSim). Regardless, I want to exhaust all possibilities that it is indeed someone else who can fix it (like SODE) before I go back. I posted the issue on 12bpilot's forum here FWIW: http://sode.12bpilot.ch/?topic=pmdg-777-door-too-high-imaginesim-katl If you or anyone else can contribute more info for 12bpilot, please do so.

I posted to their FB page (on the SODE announcement thread). https://www.facebook.com/Imaginesim-795499297198912/ Hopefully we will hear something soon. In the meantime, any progress?
  10. wde12 replied to Zuendholz's topic in PMDG 777
That makes sense. I am not familiar with xml files. Where are they typically located? Can you change the 4-5 different types of jetways into just one? And if so, would that be a problem?
  11. wde12 replied to Zuendholz's topic in PMDG 777
Hoping for a little bump here and a notice to LRW. Did you ever have any progress since your post? Since updating GSX, the SODE jetway disappear issue has since been resolved. I tweaked the aircraft parameters stuff as described and had some success at KATL. Basically, the jetway docks with my 777 at some gates - at others the door is still too high for some reason. Is there a definitive set of values for the PMDG 777? The one on the SODE author's site (12bpilot) doesn't work (at least with the PMDG 777 and Imaginesim KATL). Your post and values were much appreciated ....but like you, I am not all the way there. Thoughts?
  12. I guess by incompatible, I meant, when I park the a/c and initialize SODE, jetway docks (assuming it is properly configured with the door locations, etc. which has also been a huge pain). Then, when I initiate GSX, the SODE jetway disappears. I believe the only one that disappears is the one at the active gate.
  13. Do you or anyone else know if this integrated update has been released? I thought I read somewhere that it would be when KMEM is released. Is this accurate? I'm dying to get my hands on this - can't wait to use both GSX and SODE. Until now, they were completely incompatible. This will be a game changer at Imaginesim KATL

Definitely not an insider but these helped me: http://www.airliners.net/photo/Swiss-International-Air/Boeing-777-3DE-ER/2822822/L/&sid=2d5a9902a780cb3adf65fbd09a922ead http://www.airliners.net/photo/Swiss-International-Air/Boeing-777-3DE-ER/2820515/L/&sid=a1606d1c78051e7b8dd5e47db951ddae Could deduce: Range Rings I zoomed in and it looks to be No Smoking Digital Clock Forward SATCOM No clue on callouts, etc. On a broader note, does anyone know of good sites blogs forums etc. for this type of info for other carriers? Not just the systems config (even though that'd be awesome). But more of things like cargo capacity (and info for PFPX profiles)?
  15. If you're looking for bets in the near future, gimme a shout. I'll take it. Could use the money. If I could post an image here, I would (can't figure out how). I have an instagram of me sitting in the left seat of a Delta Boeing 777-232LR, Ship N708DN right after I boarded DAL8 to Dubai. Full flight deck too. 4 pilots and myself. They let me run through a few things, like arm the speed brake, adjust lighting, test the oxygen, work the mouse cursor, and....wait for it....move the throttles (gasp!).... basically all the stuff that I was familiar with through PMDG but had never gotten to try in person.
  16. I own it. Agree - not cheap. I use KJFK a bunch so that makes the price a tad easier to digest. It has the T4 expansion, which is critical. Nowhere near the level of FlightBeam or Taxi2Gate, but it's an old faithful. Scenery / Terminal textures get the job done. No performance issues for me. Docking system is always a perk. One thing I particularly like is the VOR / Belmont Visual for 13L. It has the lead in lights - that may sound like a small detail or perk, but there aren't many challenging approaches (at least for heavies like the 777) these days. I think it boils down to usage. I don't fly KDEN much, but I certainly bought the FlightBeam KDEN because it's on that elite level. If I had to pick between KDEN and FSDT-KJFK, I'd go with KJFK, just because it's "good enough" and I fly there a bunch. Hope that helps.
  17. Great posts and videos, Jaime. As for the inputs/criticism ..... seriously guys? If YouTube proffers an official set of qualifications to title a PMDG video "tutorial," well, I'm not aware of anything. Especially when we're 2 1/2 years from release with "1.5 official tutorials" published. Good annotations, corrections, disclaimers, etc. NO video is ever close to perfect - it's a sim. I get your point Chris, and I know your cognizant of this, but that mindset puts this forum on an unknown direction akin to Alice tumbling down the rabbit hole. Forums inherently have the back-n-forths on whatever the topic may be, but the last thing I think anyone wants is to see this one take a direction like Airliners.net. I agree - there are many users out there that have no business "teaching" but I don't think this remotely qualifies. Jaime, what date / time (z) were you flying? I'd like to boot up ASN historical and see if I can recreate. I've yet to encounter windshear, and I must admit, my manual edit / weather creation in ASN is pretty poor. I wish there was a page to download user-created weather conditions. On the topic of tutorials, has anyone given AoA's Flightworks a go for the 777? If so, any verdicts? I've tried to find samples on YouTube or their website, but can't find anything (assuming it's out). I figure the Airline2Sim is at least a year out at this point and there seems to be nothing out there - what am I missing?
  18. Wait, is your yoke / joystick working?
  19. If you're rocking 777 long hauls, FlyTampa's VHHX is a must. It's got everything you need, from surrounding scenery to the field itself. The manual is great too, as it explains how to fly the approach in simple steps. All the ones listed are great in their own respects. As I think one poster stated, it simply depends on where you want to fly. I emphasize Kai Tak because it is a unique and challening approach for a heavy. Not many like it out there today (KJFKs visuals come to mind). For a long hauler like yourself, my personal opinion for each region: North America: Flightbeam's KSFO or KDEN Central / South: I haven't seen one good SA scenery. TNCM is solid, as is MMMX. Asia: FlyTampa VHHX Austrailia: FlyTampa YSSY Middle East / Central Asia: Since you have OMDB, check out T2Gs LTBA Europe: FSDT LSZH My next grab will probably be Copenhagen though. Here's a must read source: http://www.airdailyx.net/adx-earth-airports/
  20. Thanks all. I wasn't aware that the line @ 4L on the FMC Takeoff page was also a function vs. simple info (being able to customize the length). Normally I'd be in the FCOM but mistakenly assumed this was something outside that realm. Shoulda known better. Pat/Jim - rest assured, I'm not the one looking for a quick way out. As I believe Kyle posted, I am 100% confident that KJFK uses that intersection for takeoffs (or perhaps one immediately adjacent). I have heard it on ATC and Vatsim has given me that instruction on multiple occasions (to which I requested full length). So my thinking was, okay, there has got to be some kind of calculation feature that crews us in the real world to accommodate this procedure.
  21. Hi all, Quick question on what I can best describe as early runway entry ops. I'm thinking of KJFK's 31L for example. Often times on VATSIM or while flying with the an airports' LiveATC on in the background for some kind of "atc feel," I hear instructions to taxi and hold short of a long runway at an early spot (for 31L it's often KD I believe). Thus, you wouldn't end up using the full runway length. For a heavy like the 77W, this can often be a big difference. Now, I don't use Topcat, just the FMC takeoff calculations w/some kind of derate. Either way, just assume that the V! VR V2 speeds are properly calculated for the full runway length. Anyone know how pilots recalculate / accommodate shorter takeoff distances than the runway length that is in the FMC? Thanks in advance.

I've read through the clock section (FCOMv2 pp. 696-97) and I still can't figure out how to see the elapsed time. I always see the minutes that have passed, for what appears to be the minutes within each hour. I laugh at myself because the analog clock is truly at the top of my 777-thing-I-need-to-learn list. Dan, I have been switching to the digital clock in the past. I know it's a small detail, but I have been trying to avoid that to finally make myself master this complex beast that is the analog clock.
  23. I call it the "shimmering effect." Assuming we're talking about the same thing, as Kyle says, it's all about display settings and zoom. The best solution is Inspector. There's a pushpinned post by Ryan on his settings. It's a bit dated, but still highly reliable and the endless pages of posts in the thread help serve as "updates" / guidance from those that have had similar problems. Also google "shimmer" "fsx" "pmdg" and you will find a bunch of pages elsewhere that may help. It's a pain, but you just have to keep tweaking it (namely, antialiasing and transparency supersampling). Most important - once you find the best configuration, be sure to save your settings, take a picture of them, etc. Every time I update my driver, I lose the settings. So, is it accurate that this limitation is attributable to the state of GPUs in general? I always thought it was another example of FSX's age, but he's in P3D.
  24. Just out of curiosity, I assume this is being triggered in random failures mode? I ask because lately, I've been having the same "random failures" on all a/c. It's typically this HPSOV failure, a fire loop failure, and one other, I can't remember right now. I wanna say there was a post about these recurring failures awhile back, I probably should check. Is this your experience too? I always clear the failures, set random back to 2 per 10hrs, no limits, and these always reoccur.
