November 14, 200322 yr I have been flying around a lot lately using the FS2004 ATC and have noticed that even though I have a STAR filed on my flight plan, whenever I get within 50 or 60 miles of my destination airport, ATC always vectors me on the giant square route that they did in FS2002. First I am vectored 90 degrees from the arrival runway then vectored straight in from 25 miles out. Is this realistic? It seems to me I read somewhere that one of the features of FS2004 ATC was that you could fly SIDs and STARs. I have no problem flying a SID because ATC leaves me alone to navigate but the ATC vectors near an airport have led me several times over noise sensitive areas and close to running into a mountain. Now I understand being vectored for spacing coming in to airports but is there some way that I can fly most of the STAR using FS2004 ATC before I get vectored in to the runway? How does it work in the real world with the airlines that have filed flightplans with STARs? Thanks for the help.
