February 26, 201115 yr I've recently installed Fly Tampa's Kai Tak scenery. When I start ASE in standard mode, the wind is very different to what they should be.The report page always lists the nearest airport as VHHH, even though VHHX is in the station data.Obviously, the VHHX METAR is automatically generated by ASE, and is pretty much a copy of the weather at VHHH.Whilst the QNH and temperature is OK, the wind is usually very different.Today, the wind at VHHH and VHHX was 100/12. However, the wind in FSX was 180/5. Then the direction kept on shifting around, never really staying still, although the speed stayed constant at 5.Switching the DWC solved this issue, but I would prefer to use standard mode.Is there any way of getting the wind at Kai Tak to match that at Chek Lap Kok?I notice in the FSX weather box, there is no station at VHHX. Is this what's causing the problem? Phil Brown
February 26, 201115 yr Hi Phil,You are correct about VHHX not being a weather station. So then it becomes an Interpolated station and weather is blended from the 4 stations shown, if you click on the Interpolation Details icon. The surface winds will also be interpolated and may be 6kts or under, which is calm in FS.
March 5, 201115 yr Author In order to try and get around this problem, I've managed to create a weather station at VHHX. However, whenever ASE is loaded, it overwrites the weather station files, and removes any custom stations added. The two files it is altering are wxmapping.bin in the Weather folder within FSX, and the wxstationlist.bin file in the AppData folder with FSX.cfg.Is there any way to stop ASE overwriting my updated weather station files? Why does it even need to change them? Phil Brown
March 5, 201115 yr Author VHHX is already a station in ASE. Yet it keeps on removing my VHHX entries from the weather station files. My theory was that if the actually was a weather station in FSX called VHHX, then ASE could write weather to that station in standard mode.that would then avoid the issue of VHHX having to be intepolated, and causing the winds to be quite substantially wrong. Is there any way of fooling both FSX and ASE into thinking that the VHHH weather station is located at Kai Tak?I've also noticed that when I'm flying into VHHX, ASE's fight watch will only give me weather for the nearest airport, despite having a flight plan loaded into ASE going to VHHX.
