  1. Aivlasoft EFB scans BGL files from the scenery directory to create it'd airport maps. So I guess the data in the sim is available. Although it doesn't show buildings, so I don't know where that data will be available from. But I can't see anyone else other than PMDG creating something that will integrate seamslessly into the 747. I'm sort of hoping that this will be like the weather radar for the 777 - something they aren't commenting on until they are sure they can make it work properly. I'm guessing the -8 will come out after the -400 release, so they still have some time to surprise us. Here's hoping, anyway.
  2. Hi All, Does anyone know whether PMDG have said whether the new 747-8 will come with the airport display option on the ND? I tried a search but it didn't pull up any responses.
  3. Bob, If you have any contact with the developer, can you ask about the posibility of an open beta? Afterall, it's not like the current public version is a stable bug-free version of the program. I can't see how the beta will be worse or more buggy than the current version, and a public beta will help speed up testing and maybe allow more than one patch per year (which I agree with others is pretty outrageous).
  4. Good spot!! I have been meaning to give the demo a try just to see how it compares.
  5. Is this with a beta version, or with the public release v1.7.2? In my version, even with holding set to 100%, it doesn't work. The change of runway/STAR is listed as a known issue on the PATC forum - http://www.pointsoftware.de/proatcxforum/forum/index.php/topic,652.0.html And the issue with STARS with transitions (particually prevelant in the US) is well discussed on the forum.
  6. But thats not what the developer has done! The current version has loads of issues - just to list some that affect my flights: -Frequency changes sometimes not being recognised -Approach holding doesn't work at all -Can't change arrival runway or STAR -Doesn't recognise STARs with transitions (despite STAR transition being listed on the moving map window suggesting it should work) Some of these issues will only have got through beta testing if they weren't tested at all. One update a ywar may be OK if it adds new functionality, but one update a year to also fix bugs is not acceptable given how much money they ask for the product.
  7. Kyle, Will SP1d include an upgrade for the terrain mode to match the 777, with a higher resolution and sweep?
  8. I've raised a support ticket. The oil quantity for the right engine was about 13 Qt when I took off. I've just done a quick search on the internet, and it seems the minimum quantity is 18 Qt, which is probably why I got the issue in the first place.
  9. I believe I have spotted a bug in when the engine oil temperature failure is triggered. If I allow the engine oil quantity to drop too low without topping it up, during the descent, and particularly in turns during the descent, the engine oil quantity can fall into the 'low' zone. This always seems to happen to the right engine - it seems to use more oil than the left. When the oil quantity falls into the low zone, it immediately triggers the Engine Oil Temperature failure. The problem with this is there is then no way of stopping the oil temperature rising without manually cancelling the failure in the FMC. The checklists suggest increasing the throttle to mid-way to cool the oil, but as the failure has already triggered, it doesn’t have any effect. Also, after the turn, the oil quantity usually goes back into the normal zone again, and so the oil temperature should stop increasing at this point even if no action is taken. Should the Engine Oil Temperature failure not trigger until the oil temperature is actually in the red zone? This would allow the possibility if increasing engine power in order to cool the oil down.
  10. Thanks for the reply Kyle. When I installed the 300ER, I started a fresh flight from the FSX menu, then saved the flight. I then save the flight each time at destination and then reload it for the next flight, but these were all based on the initial new save after installing the 300ER. This is also the 5th flight since installing the 300ER, and the first time I've had this issue.
  11. As I was descending into Tokyo, I noticed the oil temperature on the right engine start to increase. Eventually it got into the amber zone, triggering an EICAS warning, even though I have random service based failures turned off. I paused the sim for a few moments to see if this was an issue anyone else had, but couldn't find anything. By the time I got back to the paused sim, the oil temperature was 277 degrees C and well into the red zone (temperature seemed to increase even while FSX was paused). I cancelled the failure through the FMC, but am wondering why it occurred. Is it that although I have service based failures turned off, failures will still occur if I don't treat the plane correctly? If so, why only the right hand engine, and not both? Autothrottle had been on from takeoff to this point, so surely whatever occurred to the right engine would’ve happened to the left engine. Only difference is that oil quantity is 18 on the left, and 13 on the right.
  12. philbrown posted a topic in PMDG 777
I know this feature has been asked a few times before, but there has never been a response from PMDG and it isn't a feature in any of PMDG's products. As I don't sit in front of my PC for 10 hours just in case a failure occurs, I have failures turned off. But I feel I'm missing out on quite a lot this aircraft has to offer because of it. Is it possible to implement a option where the 777 can pause the sim if a failure occurs? This means I won't come back to the PC to find an engine has failed and the aircraft has crashed because I wasn't there to deal with it.
  13. As the 777 has Electronic Checklists, I was wondering what happens with paper checklists? Does the ECL have all the same procedures on as the paper checklist? Is the paper checklist only in the cockpit as a backup in case the ECL fails?
  14. I'm also experiencing this problem. Any historical data I download between about the 5th March 2013 and the 15th March 2013 results in a load of download failed messages, and 9 times out of 10, the data doesn't download fully. Historical data outside of that date range seems to download OK. I've already raised a ticket for this issue, and also tried an uninstall and reinstall, but the problem remains.
  15. I can't say whether the video was packs off or not. My takeoffs in FSX are packs off, and I still can't hear the engines.I didn't really notice any sound difference between sitting on the ground with engines off, and flying in cruise. It seems that the wind noise as speed increases seems to be quite low as well.
  16. Already tried that - all it does is raise the volume for all of the sounds. The engine sounds get louder, but the pack and electrical sounds get louder too.
  17. I've got all of the FSX volume settings at 50, as recommended by PMDG, but I am completely unable to hear the engines at all.the noise of the packs and electrical systems seem to drown out the engine sounds.I have the master volume set correctly, as the voices from Radar Contact and the other cockpit sounds are at a suitable level.I've watched a few videos on YouTube, and you can definitely hear the engines when they are increased to takeoff thrust. Is there any way to increase the volume of the engines, without touching any of the FSX volume settings (as this would then affect other aircraft whose volume levels are OK.)Thanks
  18. I believe I have solved my issues. It seemed to stem from having ATC Wind Lock and Supress Updates whilst on the Ground switched on.I noticed from the status log that when AS2012 first loads, it downloads the current weather from the system date and time.It then sets the wind lock to the value from that weather for the airport you are closest too.It then connects to FSX, and re-downloads weather for the date and time I had FSX set to.If Suppress Updates whilst on the Ground is switched on, none of the stations within the supression limit are updated to the FSX date and time - they remain at the system date and time.Either way, now that I've switched off Wind Lock and Supress Ground Updates, the weather loads correctly, and the upper winds are changing direction correctly.
  19. Good thinking Batman!Ticket submitted. But I was surprised that there are no other threads on this issue other than the sticky which doesn't really apply to my situation.Ifeveryone was having this issue, surley someone would have said something by now. The fact they haven't, suggests to me that maybe it's an issue with my setup somewhere, not with AS2012 itself. Is anyone else having this issue in Standard mode?
  20. I have recently purchased AS2012 as an upgrade from ASE.I am having problems with wind direction being stuck at whatever the wind was when I took off.I have AS2012 build version 4363.I have FSUIPC version 4.794, with all weather controls turned off.I am running AS2012 in Standard Depiction mode. This problem occurs whether or not I insert a flight plan. The wind speed seems to be correct.I've read the sticky topic at the top regarding stuck winds - but I'm not running in DWC mode, and I have the latest FSUIPC installed.Any ideas?
  21. You can even do the above fix in flight, by saving panel state, change the value in the file, then reload the panel state.Be warned though, the autopilot will trip out for the 16 seconds it takes the systems to re-initialise.
  22. I also noticed it today. I don't know whether it was doing it prior to LNAV, but certainly on arrival I was only able to fly TRACK and not HEADING. Switching between ND track up made no difference.
  23. I've done some more testing, and it actually seems that it's a problem with my saved flight that I was using. I've reloaded the aircraft from scratch, and so far no issues.
  24. Actually, just done another test, and the hydraulic electric pumps are already overheating before I've even started the engines. I think it was about 3 minutes from switching them on to engine start.
  25. Ah Chris, I seem to recall not moving the landing gear to Off for quite some time. I was also trying to get the gear to work with my GoFlight hardware and may have inadvertantly left the gear activated throughout the flight. I've disabled the GoFlight gear lever now as it doesn't work with the 737, so I'll see if I get it on the next flight.
