HDG SET

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I was flying earlier today and decided to vector my self for an ILS into Gatwick (departed Heathrow) and noticed that HDG SEL did not hold the selected HEADING, but instead it held the TRACK. I had at that time a 20kts crosswind. Just now I was flying into Istanbul and decided to try again and it's the same story. I'll get a screenshot of it next time, but it's easy to replicate. First make sure you have HDG up on the ND and then just go into the air and use HDG SEL. Kind Regards, [Edit] I cannot edit the topic, but it should have been HDG SEL

Hi Jack, Thanks for the quick respons. I've found that if you engage HDG for the first mode it works fine. However after having flown in LNAV for a bit. It follows track. The first two screen shots shows how the F/D's are centered and that HDG mode follows TRK. Last screen shot is a question. it seems after take off the MCP speed is stuck at some strange value?? I don't know if this is real as I don't fly the 737NG, my self. Kind regards,

Hi Martin, Refer to FCOM Vol. 2, Page 4.20.11 - Automatic Flight Takeoff and Climb (PDF Page 223). Once a good climb rate has been established the speed bug commands MCP SPEED plus 20 kts. Depending where you read, you set either V2 or V2+10 into the MCP speed window (the manuals here state V2), so the final speed is either V2+20 (or V2+30). Best regards,Robin.

I can confirm that I am experiencing this problem as well (HDG). Start from cold and dark, or normal. Take off, HDG mode works normally. After engaging LNAV and flying for a while. When I switch back to hdg mode, the autopilot follows TRACK heading instead of heading. I am using ND track-up, (ND hdg up also has it). Does anyone else have this problem? Marcus Jian

I also noticed it today. I don't know whether it was doing it prior to LNAV, but certainly on arrival I was only able to fly TRACK and not HEADING. Switching between ND track up made no difference.

I have never used anything besides ND track up before since that is what our planeshave. Can everyone confirm that ND track up works properly with hdg sel?

Confirmed. I'm a HDG-up flyer normally but just tried TRK-up as well. Certainly after a minute of LNAV it would only track TRK. I also tried to engage LNAV and immediately HDG SEL afterwards, but that wasn't enough to break it. Let LNAV on for a minute or so, then this issue arised. sig.gif
