February 27, 201115 yr Sitting on the ground, I noticed the weather seems to be resetting every 4-6 seconds. For example,it is light snow -SN at CYQA presently. The snow is visible for 4 or 5 seconds, then clear for a second, then visible again for 4-5 seconds, then clear, and so on.From my ASE log:4:10:00 PM:0671 - Sent Weather: CYQA4:10:04 PM:0625 - Sent String: CYQA 272045Z AUTO 18011KT 8SM -SN OVC016 M00/M02 A2981 RMK SLP109 MAX WND4:10:04 PM:0796 - Sent Weather: CYQA4:10:08 PM:0812 - Sent String: CYQA 272045Z AUTO 18011KT 8SM -SN OVC016 M00/M02 A2981 RMK SLP109 MAX WND4:10:08 PM:0937 - Sent Weather: CYQA4:10:12 PM:0984 - Sent String: CYQA 272045Z AUTO 18011KT 8SM -SN OVC016 M00/M02 A2981 RMK SLP109 MAX WND4:10:13 PM:0062 - Sent Weather: CYQA4:10:17 PM:0171 - Sent String: CYQA 272045Z AUTO 18011KT 8SM -SN OVC016 M00/M02 A2981 RMK SLP109 MAX WND4:10:17 PM:0203 - Sent Weather: CYQA4:10:21 PM:0375 - Sent String: CYQA 272045Z AUTO 18011KT 8SM -SN OVC016 M00/M02 A2981 RMK SLP109 MAX WND4:10:21 PM:0656 - Sent Weather: CYQAEach time the string is sent, the visibility and snow resets.I can't think of anything I have changed other than adding a bufferpool to my FSX.cfg, started noticing this a couple days ago.Weird.Any ideas?Thanks,Rob.FSX, ASe642, FSUIPC reg 4.664, dual core, nvidia7800.From simconnect log...3:08:02 PM:0281 - Sim general message:Sim Msg: Exception received: SIMCONNECT_EXCEPTION_WEATHER_INVALID_METAR3:08:02 PM:0812 - Sim general message:Sim Msg: Exception received: SIMCONNECT_EXCEPTION_WEATHER_INVALID_METARAnd here are the ASE-fsx options.[Options]FSVersion = FSXDynamicRateofChangePercent = 0VATSIMDownloads = FalseAutomaticDownloadInterval = 15AutomaticDownloads = TrueCAVOKCloudGenerationPercent = 10NoDataCloudGenerationPercent = 10CirrusCloudGenerationPercent = 10MaximumCloudLayers = 4MinimumCloudTurbulencePercent = 0MaximumCloudTurbulencePercent = 100MinimumCloudIcingPercent = 0MaximumCloudIcingPercent = 100StratusCloudOccurrencePercent = 0MinimumVisibilitySM = 0MaximumVisibilitySM = 89MaximumUpperVisibilitySM = 89MaximumSurfaceWindSpeed = 100MinimumWindTurbulencePercent = 0MaximumWindTurbulencePercent = 100MinimumWindShearPercent = 0MaximumWindShearPercent = 50DisableWindsAloft = FalseWakeTurbulenceStrength = 0CreateVirtualStations = TrueEnhanceRouteCoverage = TrueDepictHurricanes = FalseEnableSkyScapeMode = FalseUseSkyScapeforStratus = FalseForceHighPriority = TrueUpdateRange = 500EnableWindSmoothing = FalseEnableVisibilityGraduation = FalseEnableFogLayerSimulation = TrueLocalSuppression = TrueSuppressionRange = 200StartupWave = FalseEnableDirectWindControl = TrueShowSimMessages = FalseSupressOnGround = FalseForceDestinationWeatherZone = TrueVoiceATIS = TrueThermalGenerationRatePercent = 0UpandDowndraftGenerationRatePercent = 0MaximumDowndraftRate = 300MaximumUpdraftThermalRate = 500DisableHazeLayer = TrueFogLayerGeneration = FalseDatFileOverwriteUserEdit = 0SuppressionCeiling = FSXDepictionMode = DWCPreventFSXCloudRedraws = TruePreventTstormsWithCB = FalseGraduationCeiling = 12000 System specs: Dual core E6300 (1.86g X 2), 2gb RAM, nvidea7800GT, Saitek yoke, CH throttle (6 lever), Soundblaster live.Add-ons: FSX: LDS767, FSL Concorde, FT E175/195, PMDG 747X/737X, Active Sky E, some freeware airports.Human specs: Desktop simulation since FS1, beta tester (LDS, FSL), 737NG simulator tech (Threshold Aviation), r sole+.
February 27, 201115 yr Hi,I looked into this, but I can't duplicate it. The ASE log is normal. By the time I tried, the weather at that particular station had changed, so I went to other places that were reporting only -SN and each time the snow stayed falling. I sat on the runways and also flew around a bit. There was one other report of this a few weeks ago and I think we came to the conclusion that it was FSX that was causing the snow to stop, much in the same way that it can cause rain to stop falling in the summer. It may be the bufferpool setting as well, as snow is more of a graphics activity.
February 28, 201115 yr Author Thanks Jim.I will put the back up FSX.cfg file in place without buffer pools and see what happens, then report back.Bye for now,Rob. March 4, 201115 yr Author Resolved. The culprit was FSUIPC...I fired up ASE and FSX at Winnipeg last night in light snow with no buffer pools in the FSX.cfg. Again, the snow would display for 4 seconds, then clear for a second, then re-appear for 4 seconds.I selected "Normal Defaults" in FSUIPC, then reset the wind and turb smoothing, I did not select 'allow changes to FS own weather'...problem solved.Which setting in FSUIPC was causing the 'interference' is unknown, but that was the solution. Thanks for looking at it.
