Another countryside without grass

Featured Replies

Looking for a solution to an issue I have, I have read a topic in this forum about countryside without grass. It describes my query exaclty except I am talking about the UK !I have FSX. Windows XP. DeLuxe Edition. No other added scenery except Global.Scenery 2008. SP 1 and 2. I am not prone to fiddlingwith files etc so it 'as is ' straight from the box.I purchased Flight 1 Global 2008 in 2009 and I have found it very satisfactory. Recently I have started flyingFight Simulation FSX in the UK and Ireland and I notice that the landscape is very brown in colour atall altitudes and all aircraft. I am not sure whether colouring is just the UK but the FAr East (particularily Malaya which I know personally) doesn't seem to be very green to me either.I have tried altering the Time and Seasons but they do not make any difference . Surely the UK should be very green all the year round? I have looked at my FSX Scenery Library and I notice that Global 2008 is listed as numbers 19 to 24. Should I move them up to say 2 or 3 ? Would this make a difference ? I have checked my monitor coloursettings and noted colours in other programmes, all of which appear to be OK.Everything else, such as aircraft, interiors etc in the sim ishighly satisfactory to my eye. Having read the original topic some of the later replies about moving files and .bgl's are completely over my head so any remedy has to be simple. Looking at my attached file which is Boscombe Down Wiltshire with season at February, do you think I am correct insaying this is too brown ? Would appreciate any knowledgable but simple (!) replies-thanks.

Hello Timothy,The brown is the default mild Winter texture and is supposed to represent dry grass (without snow cover). So, what you see should be right. Whether it is accurate is something else altogether and only a native of the area could say (and yet there have been comments here from people who never noticed that grass dries and turns yellow-brown in certain seasons, particularly as seen from the air.)Ground textures in that area will display as brownish in the right season - a lot of the country seems to be land class value 30 - COOL CROPS AND TOWNS:The equivalent texture sheet for that region is the 008A series and the mild Winter textures look like this:In Spring and Summer, they turn green again; here is a Summer texture:If you were a scenery designer, it would be an easy fix with a different region or season file. But, as you are not and only want simple solutions, then you must either grin and bear it, or hope that there is a commercial package that changes that. Perhaps the UK VFR textures modify the appearance of the ground in Winter, perhaps not. Or, you can post a request here for a new regions file and you might find a generous scenery designer willing to be of help.Good luck.Luis
