March 8, 201115 yr Was just wondering if RC reads AFCADS. Am asking because I normally fly into KLax. I ussally fly Southwest Airlines and always get runway 6 when landing which is the side of the airport Southwest is on. But when flying Continental I get runway 7 which, yes, is the side of the Airport Continental is on. Just wondering.
March 8, 201115 yr The makerwys.exe utility used by RC is grabbing information from afd (includes afcad) files to build its airport scenery database. Version 4 does not use parking codes and so far version 5 (under development) does for the purpose of requesting an arrival gate before RC5 is started in in-flight mode. For now in RC4 after approach assigns a runway based on AI behavior, weather, and runway properties you can request another runway near the same direction closer to your desired parking area. For departure RC4 where multiple active runways are available RC4 will pick the closest based on the threshold and proper take-off direction. In both FS9 and FSX runways must be within seven degrees of heading to have multiple active runways. There is a technique available called the star or crosswind runway technique that using an airport afd editor you create short psuedo runways spaced seven degrees apart between existing runways so to FS the existing runways appear as parallel for the purpose of having non-parallel runways simultaneously active. One freeware airport editor, ADE9X, has away to create and assign properties for the 'fake' runways. this is just an overview. Both FS's will unfortunately show these fake runways in the FS ATC menus for runway selection. These properly constructed fake runways do not make it into the RC scenery database and do not show in the RC menus.
