Terrain.dll error-problem found?

Featured Replies

Have searched the forum for terrain.dll problems but found nothing so did my own research.I always seem to be experiencing crashes to desktop or crashes when using map view, gps or the weather (basically anything that uses a map). Last night I tried every comination of addon and default scenery and planes and in full screen and windows mode. Still the crashes persisted when using anything to do with the map. This may be me being a bit slow but, on the weather settings there on the far right is a little icon that toggles "terrain" and my maps do indeed show the terrain. This little light bulb in my head suddenly flashed and said untoggle this and see what happens. So I did and opened up all sorts of maps, changed the weather and got NO crashes. Went back into the weather map settings, toggled the terrain switch and went back into the sim. Then I changed the weather and crash!!!From now on terrain is not going to be toggled on my gps but I still at a loss as to why this should happen. Any ideas anyone?Colin

I toggled the Map View and Weather Map terrain switch but it didn't do anything to the GPS terrain. The only way to declutter the GPS is pressing CLR button. Pressing the Terr button does cause the GPS to change from a black background (no terrain) to a colored background (terrain). You didn't provide any computer specs or driver versions. Since this is probably a graphics overload problem, you might try updating your MOBOs controller chip and graphics adapter drivers to see if it fixes your problem.W. Sieffert

Hi Colin:did the crashes occur everywhere or just in certain areas? If the latter and you have add-on files installed for those areas, the cause might be the incompatibility of FS9 with a particular way of turning FS default water into land. There's a post here that goes into the details:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=13776&page=2There's no fix that the user can apply other than not using that particular scenery (or turning off the terrain in Map View); it's the scenery developer who has to change the scenery's code.Cheers, Holger

Hi Colin,I agree with Holger. I had frequent crashes some time ago. Disabled all add on sceneries and crashes when accessing the map view was gone. Enabled add on sceneries step by step and finally identified a landclass file as the cause. Give it a shot.Ulf B

Thanks for the replies.I get the crashes anywhere and always when I open either the gps, map view or tinker with the weather. When I toggle off the terrain switch in the map view everything is fine. This is always on by default so I need to figure out how to change that.Yes I am using addon scenery, my own. Most crashes (but not all) occur within this but that is mainly because I don't often fly anywhere else.I run FS2002 as well (on a different drive) and don't get any problems. This problem has happened to me from day 1 of FS9 and even before I added any scenery, textures or planes. I use windows XP home, P4 1.8 with 512 ram and ATI 9600 128mr card.Colin
