November 19, 200322 yr I just formatted and reinstalled FS9. I installed the RAS 172 flight model. Like I do for all the aircraft I regularly fly, I edit the aircraft.cfg and modify the weight and balance section to the loadout I normally fly with, so I don't have to set it every time from within Flight Sim.I just noticed something, by the numbers it looks like the baggage station is located in front of everything else. Is it supposed to be like this, or is this an overlooked mistake?[pre]RAS's aircraft.cfg:station_load.0 = "160, -3.0, -1.5, 0.0, Pilot" station_load.1 = "160, -3.0, 1.5, 0.0, Copilot" station_load.2 = "120, -4.4, -1.5, 0.0, Passenger" station_load.3 = "120, -4.4, 1.5, 0.0, Passenger"station_load.4 = "30, 1.3, 0.0, 0.0, Baggage" Default aircraft.cfg:station_load.0 = "170, -3.0, -1.5, 0.0, Pilot"station_load.1 = "170, -3.0, 1.5, 0.0, Front Passenger"station_load.2 = "0, -6.2, -1.5, 0.0, Rear Passenger"station_load.3 = "0, -6.2, 1.5, 0.0, Rear Passenger"station_load.4 = "0, -8.0, 0.0, 0.0, Baggage"[/pre]
November 20, 200322 yr Hi,I think you perhaps e-mailed me privately about this today? Whether it was you or not, I enclose below my reply, which explains:-FS2004 is a bit flakey when it comes to C of G changes. In development we allow for the user entering excessive loads in the FS2004 fuel/payload menu. We found that with baggage aft putting lots of weight there, depending on other factors, could upset the fine balance needed for general flight, stalls and spins. So as a precaution I put the baggage in the front so any heavy baggage weight would be nose-heavy rather than tail heavy. FS2004 cannot handle tail heavy loadings too well in my opinion (try stalling some of the default aircraft and watch the tail slide!).So, I admit a not very elegant solution but it works. Provided you keep the baggage to modest weight, it'll probably be ok placing it in its nominally correct position.Kind Regards,Rob Young - RealAir Simulations Robert Young - retired full time developer - see my Nexus Mod Page and my GitHub Mod page
November 20, 200322 yr Author Thanks for the explanation, and yes I emailed it to you because I didn't know if you read the forums regularly. When I first saw it, I though I'd already edited it and messed it up, so I reinstalled it. I was just making sure it was like that for a reason, and not a mistake.
