March 22, 201115 yr For some background, see the following over in video cards:http://forum.avsim.net/topic/330313-gtx-550-ti/page__gopid__1949383#entry1949383Now for the perceived issues. My system specs are also below in my siggy line. Have I created a bottleneck with the CPU to the MB? Is the pipeline too small on an AM2+ board to support an AM3 chip? I have NOT flown FSX yet on it or tried anything strenuous, just the overall speed seems a little slower, and that is bothersome.Any thoughts? March 22, 201115 yr can you run this Cinebench 10 benchmark in single and multi thread mode and post your scores please?
March 22, 201115 yr Author yeah, I'll get to it tonight. At work now, will be home around 7-8pm EDTReading around on the ASUS forums this morning, seems to be SOME of them setting cool and quiet to AUTO in the BIOS, then setting Windows 7 Power schema to "Performance" and they saw big jumps in speed. I might try that also. can you run this Cinebench 10 benchmark in single and multi thread mode and post your scores please? March 23, 201115 yr Single processor was 936 CB-CPUMultiple Processor was 3143 CB-CPUSo, is that good?No it's not. It should be 4000 & 14000. Maybe slightly lower due to DDR2 vs DDR3, but definitely not that low.WHat's your CPU temp like and how are you monitoring it?Can you post a screeshot of CPU-Z, tabs: CPU & memory with C&Q?Also, run Maxxmem for a memory test
March 23, 201115 yr Author I loaded BIOS defaults this morning and am going to test again now....will post results in a min.... No it's not. It should be 4000 & 14000. March 23, 201115 yr Author With Defaulted BIOS, I got about the same numbers in CINEBENCH. So, I rebooted, went back in and tweaked the BIOS; adding in 10% AI Overclock....as for CPU-Z, here is the numbers now (not tested with yet):CPU Tab:Core Speed: 840.0MhzMultiplier X4Bus Speed 210.0MhzHT Link: 2100MhzL1 Data 4X64 2-wayL1 Inst 4X64 2-WayLevel2 4X512 16-wayLevel 3 6MB 48-WayCore Voltage 1.360VMemory Tab:DRAM Freq: 560MhzFSB:DRAM 3:855515222TMemory is Corsair (link with Disc: http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF-Dominator-PC2-8500-1066MHz/dp/B0014Z0Q04/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1300885316&sr=8-1 )I will test with these settings when i get home. Right now I need to get to work. :) No it's not. It should be 4000 & 14000. March 23, 201115 yr I had a typo in my previous post. I meant without C&Q.The RAM is fine, but we need to make sure those 840MHz under load go up to the expected 3.5GHz, so please check CPU-Z while running Cinebench and verify your 970BE is not stuck in C&Q mode with the multi down to x4Also, what's your NB frequency? (Memory tab)
March 23, 201115 yr Author I'll have to check it tonight and get back with you. Wondering if I should turn off Cool and Quiet in BIOS and try this again? I had a typo in my previous post. March 23, 201115 yr Author what SHOULD the BIOS CPU multiplier setting be? I am reading another CPU forum with the same problem; stick in X4 at 200Mhz for total of 800. Should I manually set the multiplier in the BIOS? Should I manually set the multiplier in the BIOS?with no overclock it should be set to AUTOThat's for a default 200 x 17.5 = 3.5GHz. When the system idles for a few seconds C&Q kicks in and lowers the multi to x4 for 800MHz Post that link please
March 23, 201115 yr Author I am going to go into BIOS first thing when i get home, turn off C&Q and set 17.5x by 200Mhz and try again. I am seeing a ton of issues with AM2 boards doing this to AM3 chips. Maybe I can FORCE it to upspeed. lolI got all excited for a second earlier, found a specs site, the chips are made by GlobalFoundries which I knew....I happen to live within 5 mins of the new plant in Malta, NY. :) Maybe i can go talk with the engineers? LOL Just kidding. :) with no overclock it should be set to AUTOThat's for a default 200 x 17.5 = 3.5GHz. March 23, 201115 yr Author Adding this to the thread, as it seems good info and backs up your data. :)http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=1930&pageID=9543That is what I am shooting for on those numbers. I am almost certain the chip is "stuck" in cool and quiet. with no overclock it should be set to AUTOThat's for a default 200 x 17.5 = 3.5GHz. Well, that should work, actually you may get away with it by simply setting the multi to 17.5 and still enjoy C&Q since it's a good thing to have it enabled. Try one thing at a time, and better be cautious and start with a 14 multi or something like that, then work your way up from there.Lol, I can see you overclocking it in the end... you could probably hit 3.8GHz on stock volts your call of course
