November 21, 200322 yr I want to use some scattered cirrus clouds in a personal weather setup, as they put much less of a hit on my system then the cumulus. My questions are:1. What is the average altitude of cirrus clouds2. What is an 'average' coverage layer (5/8, 6/8, etc)?3. How thick should the layer be?Thanks in advance!Scott
November 21, 200322 yr Commercial Member Hi, Stratus clouds are freindly and looks very nice, cumulus few should not affect your system on performance. There is many clouds type that's should not affect your peformance. Read in the learning center weather manually. Each clouds type have near 8 variation for each or higher and will appears on altitude height as they should be when they are in real life altitude.AltocumulusCumuloNimbusCalvusCumuloNimbusIncusCumulusCongestusCumulusHumilisCumulusMediocrisCumulusToweringNimbostratusNimbostratus Anvil HeadStratoCumulusStratusCirrusThunderstormIf you did not tweak your weather display in fs2004, I recommend change this.clouds draw distant to 30sight distant to 60clouds percentage to 50clouds density to medium or lowerYou can have a freindly clouds available here that's ahave better performance on default cloudshttp://fsw.simflight.com/FSWFs2k4fix.htmlCirrus clouds is in the High-level clouds type form above 20,000 feet (6,000 meters) and since the temperatures are so cold at such high elevations, these clouds are composed of ice crystals. High-level clouds are thin and white in appearance, but can appear in a array of colours when the Sun is low on the horizon. The form of high-level clouds are thin and often wispy cirrus clouds. Typically found at heights higher than 20,000 feet (6,000 meters), cirrus clouds are composed of ice crystals that originate from the freezing of supercooled water droplets. Cirrus generally occur in fair weather and point in the direction of air movement at their elevation. they mark the high-altitude front of an approaching depression, with rain from low-altitude stratus clouds following with 12 hours.ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis
November 22, 200322 yr Chris,Thanks for the reply - My system is comprised of an Athlon XP 2200+, a gig of PC2100 RAM, and a GF FX5900 Ultra. I feel quite comfortable pushing the system, but want a happy medium for extended flights.I'll try the changes you suggested.Scott
November 22, 200322 yr If you use FSUIPC, registered, you have the option of ticking the box for adding light cirrus. You can then clear all weather and FSUIPC will place cirrus appropriately. It does this very well IMHO. Allcott
