November 22, 200322 yr Howdy Gang,Has anyone purchased the Europe version of the Jepp Simcharts 3.0 for FS9? I'm considering it, but would like to know how well Norway, Sweden and Finland are covered. In their "blurb" they (Jeppesen) say that "almost" all airports with 6000' runways or greater and with an ILS are covered. I'm curious by what the mean when they say, "almost", and if other approaches such as VOR, NDB, etc. are included. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks much,Glenn
November 22, 200322 yr Hi GlennI have got the Europe version of Simcharts 3.0 installed. Just had a quick look at the countries you mention and it includes 53 airports in Norway, 56 in Sweden and 29 in Finland. As well as ILS approaches it also includes VOR, NDB and RNAV approaches as appropriate for each particular airport. Not sure how complete this is but if you want to know if there is a particular airport/approach included let me know and I will check for you.Ian
November 22, 200322 yr Thank you for this Ian. If you wouldn't mind, could you do a quick check for Aalesund (ENAL), Kirkenes (ENKR) and Tromso (ENTC), all in Norway? Also, did you find Simcharts worth the cost and were you generally happy with the purchase? Thanks very much again Ian. Appreciate your time in my behalf.Glenn
November 22, 200322 yr >Also, did you find Simcharts worth the cost and were you>generally happy with the purchase?I still have Simcharts version 1.0 (not a European version) and I have to say the quality of the product is outstanding (the charts are really well done) but many find this product a bit expensive. You can get these days many charts for free over internet but if you don't mind paying for it the Jeppesen product is very nice.Michael J.http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg Michael J.
November 22, 200322 yr Thanks Michael! I knew that one outfit was publishing a number of approach plates (forget their name, but it was based on outdated charts from SAS I believe), but I've not found any since they stopped publishing those. If you know where I might go to find them, that would really help. Thanks for the endorsement of the simcharts too. I will probably end up going that route, but I also know they don't publish anything under 6000 feet in that version, so you'd have to buy the real world version which is sure not cheap. Thanks very much again.
November 22, 200322 yr Hi, I would recommend to try to get one of the older versions of SimCharts, 1.0 or 2.0 Don
November 22, 200322 yr Thank you Uwe, that helps quite a bit. I'll give that some consideration, but one thing I have to be careful of with the older charts is whether they are compatible with Windows XP. If I get them at all, I'll likely go with the newest set. Thanks very much for your help.
November 23, 200322 yr GlennI see Uwe has given you the info on V1.0 and V2.0. In v3.0 Alsesund(ENAL) has the same charts. For Tromso (ENTC) it has an extra arrival chart and has lost the NDB/DME chart for Rwy19.V3.0 now includes the following charts for Kirkenes (ENKR)Airport diagram3 charts for ILS Rwy24 - Initial approach,Final approach, Alternative procedure1 chart for VOR/DME 062 charts for VOR/DME 24 - Initial approach, Final approach1 chart VOR/DME 170 degreesWhilst the cost is a bit expensive (I paid 70 euros for a 3 region pack direct from Jeppesen) I think it was worth the cost to get the charts directly related to FS9.Ian
November 23, 200322 yr Ok, sounds very good Ian. I'll be looking into these shortly then. Thank you VERY much for this. I really appreciate it.All the best,
