March 27, 201115 yr So I decided to purchase a new copy of FSX and Acceleration to run on a Win7 (SP1) laptop to better support addon scenery users. The FSX installation and activation went ok, but when I installed Acceleration and ran FSX an error dialog came up, "Unexpected error. ERROR CODE: 1-80004005", with a link to kb article. The article was uninformative as it said to try the activation phone number presented during activation. Which was not presented. A Google search for the error uncovered a number of threads on the topic on various MS forums, none of which proposed a solution other than reinstalling and seemed to leave the issue unresolved. I tried reinstalling and it failed. Now I know many users have suffered through the pointless foolishness (which only impedes legit users and doesn't slow down the thieves for a second) that is online activation. Anyone found a solution for this particular issue?Jon My blog

March 27, 201115 yr Author I've run into this before. Check out the following thread for a fix to get it activated:http://forum.avsim.net/topic/63828-another-acceleration-activation-error-problem-1-800040/Thanks for the tip. I had searched the forum here, but not selected the right scope pull-down. Problem fixed now, thanks again.Specifically, I:1. In Windows 7, click the Start button, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit.exe in the Programs list.User Access Control permission If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.2. Expand the following registry key:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTROL\CLASS\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}3. After you find the folder, double-click Upperfilters on the right side.4. Change the value to PartMgr only, deleting "SAFEBOOT", and then click OK. (mine said SAFEBOOT on one line and partmgr on the next, just remove one line leaving PartMgr as the value)5. Close Registry Editor, and then try to use the activation wizard. My blog
