Trying to reinstall an Add-on

Featured Replies

For no explicable reason all of a sudden FSX refused to load an aircraft add-on which the day before had been loading without any problems. So I used the add-on's uninstall process, and then tried to re-install it after a reboot. The re-install goes through till it gets to a point where I get a boxed message 'UpdateXML' with text underneath 'Docs+Settings\.........\FSX\dll.xml'Anyone with any idea how I can update this xml or replace it or fix this error? I have searched Google for this Updated xml without any success. Thanks in advance.

Perhaps this link will help - http://support.precisionmanuals.com/KB/a92/dllxml-information-and-troubleshooting.aspx . IMHO PMDG has the best explanation for troubleshooting and repairing the dll.xml.Best regards,Jim

Thanks Jim. In the end I got so fed up making numerous attempts at trying to re-install the Level-D 767-300ER despite advice from their Forum to download the latest file that I completely uninstalled every single bit of FSX.It was either that or tear my hair out. Then I re-installed FSX from scratch requiring the usual re-activation,etc,re-started FSX,then installed SP1.Again restarted FSX.So far so good. But when I came to re-installing SP2,guess what? A Microsoft error message that there is something wrong with the Windows Installer Package and that it cannot run a required DLL and the usual contact so-and-so! What on earth is this Microsoft-generated piece of nonsense? So now I cannot even progress beyond SP1 and thsu cannnot re-install my top-level add-ons such as CaptainSim,PMDG,LDS,etc which require SP2 installed.I reckon I have just about had enough with this piece of Microsoft nonsense and will return to the trouble-free FS9. No wonder there are many simmers unwilling to make the switch to FSX.I sincerely hope that the next progression of flight sim software does not have Microsoft anywhere near it.

Thanks a bundle once more,Jim.You are a great help.Update from last posting.I managed to re-download a fresh copy of the FSX SP2 from Microsoft's own website as opposed to the many others that ask for some codewords and then take one round the adverts route before allowing the download. That download actually opened up the SP2 interface and the installation bargraph got as far as updating DirectX before coming to a halt with a totally different error box with a 7-line error message with words such as SimConnect;publicKeyToken;processorArchitecture, etc, etc. At that stage I did not know whether to laugh, cry or just tear my hair out. Instead I decided that this Microsoft joke had gone far enough and sat down to a beer.I think I'll give up for a while and return to my rock-steady FS9.
