April 2, 201115 yr I've found that some aircraft have axis indicators that are useless since they're not aligned with the horizon. How do I adjust it? I've tried changing the "eye point" variables but it only affects the side and back views. I like to use the small "V".thanks!
April 2, 201115 yr After considerable tinkering, I think the problem lies in the outside view and not in the axis indicator. I'm attaching 2 pix: the outside of view from the default 737 where the axis indicator and the attitude indicator agree; and the same view from an add-on aircraft showing the axis indicator well below the horizon while the attitude indicator is aligned with it.Where would a designer set this parameter and how can I change it? It's disconcerting when you're supposedly flying level but your outside view indicates you're headed into the ground.thanks!
April 3, 201115 yr Commercial Member I think it's in the panel.cfg, either a custom VIEW_FORWARD_DIR= has been defined in the [views] section or it may also be in the [Default View] section. Compare these sections to one of the default aircraft's counterparts and you can probably see what needs to be changed.Jim
April 3, 201115 yr Jim, thanks so much for the reply. I'd tried tinkering with the VIEWS and the default but, with your encouragement, I tried some more. In checking the default panel.cfgs, I didn't find a lot of consistency: most had no "VIEWS" section and the default was usually X=0 Y=0 Size_X=8192 Size_Y=anything from 2500 to 3745. However, changing the VIEW_FORWARD_DIR= to = -1.0, 0.0, 0.0 did raise the axis indicator to the horizon!!I can understand why designers may overlook this little variable since it's not always obvious unless it's exaggerated like the panel in question.I don't' know much about panel design but I regularly swap out the altimeter for the default 737-400 one since it's the only one I've found in hundreds of panels that has legible digits in both in.Hg and QNH. I also like adding a radio altimeter, especially since I've been flying GA routes in small planes into small, often constricted airports. Thanks, again!Barry
April 3, 201115 yr Commercial Member I suppose if you had a very short panel.bmp you might define a forward view like that to put the horizon somewhere near the top of the panel, I guess it would make it easy to see the runway on approach :( . Kinda strange looking downward at the ground in level cruise though :( . Glad you got it sorted.Jim
