April 3, 201115 yr I really think that Carenado needs to make a Cessna 195. I just went up for a ride in one yesterday for the first time and I took the controls and was amazed at the responsiveness and overall sportiness of the plane (and it was manufactured in the 50's!!!). The gentlemen that took me up said that he has owned 4 different planes and has flown over a hundred different types of planes but none of them could compare to the Cessna 195. This aircraft would be great for Carenado to make since it is somewhat out of their norm...They have never made a radial, they don't have any classics, and they can incorporate different models such as the float version, tundra tires, with wheel fairings/without...I think that it would be a huge hit with the simmers. Let me know if you all agree!!Also Carenado I think it's time to get in touch with the roots of aviation, you are creating some amazing stuff and would love to see what you could do with this beautiful classic!
April 3, 201115 yr i agree, carenado needs to take a step back in time and the cessna 195 would be the perfect plane to do that with! i'd prefer a 195 over a beaver any day of the week, plus i don't think anyone has done the 195 yet so carenado should be the first.
April 4, 201115 yr Great old bird!Use to fly one that was restricted as it was modified to have only two seats in front of a bomb site containing a camera for Mosaic mapping. They really began production in 1947, not the 1950's. Price in the $12,000 range to start with, inflating to the $24,000 range by 1954 when production ceased. Stall speed was like a 150 with those barndoor flaps, cruise speed was better than a 182. Downside: drank about two gal. of oil per hour with a Jacobs 300, but what a pleasure to fly.Somewhere there is a freeware model that I had on a previous FS version that was pretty nice. Don't have it presently installed but is probably on an archived CD somewhere. Just did a google search, and Mike Stone contributed a freeware model which is probably the one I had and might be worth a peek if you are really interested.Don't know how many new comers would be interested in such a classic for FS, but the 195 is a prized possession now days in the real world GA market place. Thanks for the post. Sure brings back good memories:RTH
April 7, 201115 yr YES a 195 would be great always a crowd bringer, unless there's a Spartan Executive there.I'd love to see a carenado Spartan too. Its one of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring planes of AAl time. This one's special beacuse it was ordered in 1937 as painted instead of standard polishedThe Spartan Executive was first flown on March 8, 1936 two days after the Supermarine Spitfire. Built in Kansas, due to the Great Depression and subseqent WWII, they only produced 34 of these marvelous airplanes. Powered by a single 450-hp Pratt & Whitney R-985 it was able to cruise at 190 knots, and had a range of 870nm. Almost all the Spartan's were impressed into WWII, hwoever 26 remain flying; and one was used by Iraqi King Ghazi, but crashed in Scotland and used a target practice. The Spartan Executive is a magnificent exapmle of one of the finest planes of its day, and is of pure beauty. I'd love to see Carenado build this timeless airplane, as onbody has ever done it for flight simulator (except for 1 freeware, but freeware doesn't cut payware or Carenado quality). Inactive
