April 13, 201115 yr Not sure if this has come up before but I'm very please with overall performance with my new 460 1 gig, but have bad shimmers of trees, water, fences well everything. I found this..http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?t=913781It works right along side inspector and now it looks sweet. no shimmering not even on water from a distance. I lost about 2 frames when 4x is applied.
April 13, 201115 yr 8xS or 8xSQ look better. Try it out:http://forum.avsim.net/topic/324786-nvidia-configuration-guide-inspector-2xxxx-drivers-version-20-explanations-of-all-settings/
April 13, 201115 yr I can't seem to get proper AA w. my gtx 460, so I'll definitely concider your suggestion Eric. Hope it works across 5040x1050 I assume you're ditching Inspector...Thanks for the tip, so far.Bjorn "I´ll rather be down here wishing I was up there than be up there wishing I was down here"
April 13, 201115 yr Author I haven't ditched it. I used this tool to fix the shimmers only and tried different settings for performance. Then set up inspector iaw nicks guide. I know for a fact the tool works there's no shimmer but if it over rides inspector is yet to be determined. But I will keep testing. Let me know how you make out.edit btw I am using the latest beta driver 270 . something.. nice drivers they worked great on the 260 too
April 13, 201115 yr Oh, ok. That little tool adds SG SSAA = Sparse Grid Supersampling Antialiasing. It's actually in Inspector too, under Transparency Antialiasing. It looks great, yes, but the performance hit is big. Have you tried it in bad weather? I used to have a 460 and it couldn't handle it with clouds. Not even my current overclocked GTX480 can reallyAll those things serve the same purpose and override one another (nVidia Control Panel, Inspector, NVidia SSAA)You can test it yourself changing SG SSAA with NVidia SSAA and then check the global profile in Inspector. You'll see it changed to 4x SGSS AA in Transparency antialiasing
April 13, 201115 yr Author Dazzyou confused me..I tried all the settings in the inspector profile nothing in that took away the shimmer. Some caused performance drops. This tool took out the shimmer and with my setting no real drop in perf. Even with my 260 and nhancer I had shimmers over the water and now just beautiful. I did more reading. it seems that its a driver problem with nvidia and this is their solution for shimmers Oh, ok. That little tool adds SG SSAA = Sparse Grid Supersampling Antialiasing. April 13, 201115 yr No Eric, it's always been there in Inspector. See the highlighted setting:If you don't believe me, set SG SSAA with the app you found and check back in Inspector. The global profile will show the same SGSS setting you just applied. Both do the same thing
April 13, 201115 yr Author I believe you. I never noticed it. will give that a try and see how the 2 compare No Eric, it's always been there in Inspector.
