May 14, 201115 yr This is a question for all you really smart computer types out there.I have 2 x 250Gb HD's in a SATA RAID connected with a strip and they show as 1 HD labeled "C" when I open "My Computer". One of the HD's is beginning to make clicking sounds when I boot the PC up. I have imaged the "C" drive onto a 1Tb external drive using Norton Ghost 15 and I now see two image volumes with a size of 142Gb and 109Gb respectively on the external drive.I am just wondering if it is a simple task to install 1 new HD @ 1tb and image the 2 volumes onto the one new HD or is there more to it? Will that even work? \Robert Hamlich/
May 15, 201115 yr I suppose you mean RAID 0 (2 drives in parallel for 2x speed as opposed to one drive mirroring the other for safety in case one drive fails). What confuses me about your description of the situation is that RAID is an array of multiple hard drives that constitute a single volume, so if you backed-up your RAID array once you should only have a single backup regardless of the number of hard drives in the RAID array.Cheers,- jahman.
May 15, 201115 yr Author Yes you are correct it is a RAID 0 array, not sure why it shows 2 volumes, I know I ran the backup only once. I took it over to my local shop so they could have a look at it. Thanks for your reply. \Robert Hamlich/
May 15, 201115 yr OK. Also the date/time stamp of the backup files would provide additional clues... For next time!Cheers,- jahman.
May 15, 201115 yr Author Yes for next time LOL, the computer shop left a voicemail late Saturday saying the data re-imaging on the new HD was complete. Will pick it up Monday, fingers crossed. \Robert Hamlich/
May 19, 201115 yr Author Tried the PC out at the shop before leaving for home and it took 4 presses on the power button to boot the computer up. Later on (approx 90 min) I set the PC up, pressed the power button and the computer would not boot, actually it wouldn't even post (beep). Aside from the HD issue the PC worked flawlessly.I begrugingly took the PC back to the computer store and they figured it was the PSU, so they pulled,no, "ripped" the power cables and wires off of everything in the PC and plugged in a new CoolerMaster PSU and still no dice, it would not post... I realized they were using a 700w PSU where I have a 750w Corsair unit that is approx 5 1/2 years old so they had to order one in.I left the PC overnite and they are saying it is definately the PSU, now doubt due to the way I saw them pull on the wires while troubleshhoting the day before. I am so mad, I cannot prove it but I am convinced the PSU failed due to the way it was handled while they changed and reimaged my HD.Not going back to that shop ever again. \Robert Hamlich/
