Vancouver airport

I've been looking into ways to obtain an FU3 version of CYVR. As far as I can glean there's no FS custom version to convert since all stock FS version were pretty well made in the first place. X-Plane has a good stock version of CYVR as well. Unless there's an "other sim" freeware version to convert we should create it from scratch. Whether one uses a hi-res version of the terrain (full hi-res extension) or the extended OT terrain version the airport package itself will fit both. Same runways and same building models--it's just a question of different coordinates to get the placement right for each CYVR version. The first thing would be to create and place the runways. Then custom buildings will be added. Any satellite image will provide the bird's eye view required for proper placement of the various elements. There are also charts that will serve well as reference for runway placement, runway lengths and taxiway layout. While we may want custom runways for an exact fit the basic airport with taxiways can be made directly in FLED without the need for any custom models.Unless there is an available version to port I may try to create some buildings. What do you think?

Hmmm...Sounds like a plan.Notice the absence of any adjective! I'm still sore after the last battle. Still, if someone could make the buildings, I'd be happy to use them while doing the taxigraph, AI, scenery et c.I really must extend the terrain. The kit's been sat inside a zip file for ages while I argue with myself about the wisdom of starting another project.Regards,D

If you want to do the airport I'll send you a megatile with the correct placement / proportions as a template.

Hi Hans Petter and Dave,To build an airport you must have the north extension installed or FLED will not do the job. There are a lot of building downtown Vancouver but none in the airport area :-(J.Gabbert has created an excellent YVR airport scenery see at http://jgabbert.wordpress.com/ but there is no way to get it. I assume that FLED works in the usual fashion once the Seattle extension is installed? I haven't tried to add anything north of Whidbey island yet. The FS version you referred to seems to be put on hold since the designer is currently busy learning to fly some aircraft. When the scenery is finished it could be ported provided the designer doesn't mind.Hans Petter
