Coastline tiles

Featured Replies

Hi Folks.I am using TileProxy and FSX with XP Pro. I am flying along the south coast of England and notice that I see TileProxy images below the aircraft and for a short distance out when the scenery reverts to default. However, my main query is that at various points along the coastline I am seeing rectangular blocks of plain blue colour where the coastline is not visible. I am thinking that this may have to do with some settings in the user ini file and although I have read various bits about the ini settings I am unsure what and how to adjust.Any hints or tips would be appreciated. I do not know how to upload an image of this effect, so if a piccy is required for a diagnosis then could someone tell me how to do it please?Regards...Ken

a pic would probably help... it doesn't have to be too large but here's a how-tohttp://forum.avsim.net/tutorials/article/31-preparing-a-screen-shot-for-posting/but be sure to use the "preview post" button to see if it shows up before you complete the post.Sometimes there are variations in the scenery blocks I see also but the picture will still help. I'm currently running W7 and don't have TP installed except on XP which I rarely access any more but we may still find out what it is.One thing to note is your "water" settings... I usedwater_mask=Onwater_blending=Onblend_distance=200.0blend_exponent=1.0alpha_min=0.2678alpha_max=0.9373water_rgb=#000D1Awater_smoothing=Offwater_threshold=0.33-------------------------Sometimes the high resolution downloaded imagery stops right at the shoreline or very shortly past - if there aren't enough images at the correct resolution to complete a scenery block, TP will use the next lower res image set that is complete. The lower resolution may not exactly match the higher resolution and could 'take a chunk out of it'.Best we wait to see if you can get a screenshot posted and ideally specify the lat/lon of the imager area so we can see what it should look like. Also what is your FSX scenery range and resoultion [TERRAIN]LOD_RADIUS=?TEXTURE_RESOLUTION=?and Tileproxymax_lod=?preload_min_lod=?preload_max_lod=?------------------min_level=?max_level=?level_mapping=all these settings work together to determine what you will see.Loyd

Hi Loyd .Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.Kinda busy right now with family and flying online tonight with friends using FS2004 so screenshots to follow but here are the settings you asked for:-FSX config.[TERRAIN]LOD_RADIUS=3.500000MESH_COMPLEXITY=50MESH_RESOLUTION=22TEXTURE_RESOLUTION=25AUTOGEN_DENSITY=0DETAIL_TEXTURE=1WATER_EFFECTS=3and Tileproxymax_lod=? 17preload_min_lod=? 10preload_max_lod=? 17------------------min_level=? 9max_level=? 17level_mapping= 9,10,11,14,14,14,15,16,17,18,19I see already that there is a difference between the Max_level of 17 and the level_mapping of 19 but I will wait for your reply on this before tinkering. I hope that this will explain something not quite right to you.Best regards...Ken

Ken,I think the most probable issue with your settings is the 'impossible' task that you are asking TP and FSX to perform for you.A friend in London with a very high-end system runs TP well at 1m resolution across wide ranges of scenery, but I don't dare try to match his performance. 2m resolution is the best I can manage reliably with my hardware. You currently have TP configured to try to make 30cm scenery (max_lod=17) and this means TP will be trying to make scenery that is 16X more dense than his and 64X more dense than mine. The most likely cause for the blue blocks is that your system doesn't have time to make such dense scenery... and there is very little imagery available at that resolution anyway. Setting TP to 30cm doesn't just mean "show when available", it means every scenery element that you fly over it will be made 'dense' enough to contain 30cm resolution imagery. To be sure, this is only in the narrow area immediately below the AC, but the more you fly over an area, the more scenery tiles there will be that need to be enhanced to this level.Meanwhile, your FSX resolution of 25 (corresponding to 1m) means FSX wouldn't display 30cm textures at that resolution anyway.I'm sending an email to your contact location (hope it's current) as a complete description of how to get TP optimized is a little too complex for a single forum response. For the sake of a quick recommendation to start with, may I suggest the following settings for 1m:[TileProxy]# ** LOD 8 scenery disabled/unused **master_enable=Ondiskless_mode=Offoffline_mode=No# 1m max resolutionmax_lod=15preload_min_lod=8preload_max_lod=17max_contexts=512water_mask=Onwater_blending=Onblend_distance=200.0blend_exponent=1.0alpha_min=0.2678alpha_max=0.7#original#water_rgb=#000D1A#North Sea bluegraygreen water_rgb=#0A101Awater_smoothing=Offwater_threshold=0.33# 800M /default are too low?cache_bytes_limit=800000000cache_tiles_limit=125000source=Service1#----------------------------------[service1]min_level=10max_level=19map_version=373 # not the most current but it seems to make no difference# reminder: level mapping is optional#level_mapping=10,11,12,14,14,15,16,17,18,19Important note: the service sections set to maximum range like this DO NOT have to be changed in order to change resolution - changing just the max_lod at the top is enough.Regards,Loyd
