We need a program....

Featured Replies

There is a program to have all your aircraft zipped in a file until you need one, Could this also be done with scenery, so they could all be in a zipped file, until you come into that area??Should shorten load times when firing up the sim, and everything would be available as you fly into that area!! Just a thought :-) Thanks Eddie

I actually thought about a program like that, but as an archival type. Such as if you don't use an aircraft or scenery but don't want to delete it, just archive it to a file and save space. Only problem would be is that it will not be availible to the sim unless you unarchive it. Not exactly what you have in mind, but its along the same path. Think I should pursue this a bit and perhaps make a prog doing that?

Hi Eddie,What OS are you using? With WindowsXP, you can compress the entire FS9 folder and all the subfolders. XP decomresses them "on the fly," so to speak. Some folks claim FS9 runs faster if it is compressed but I didn't detect enough difference to matter. R-PS-- Oh, and as you add planes, scenery, etc. they are compressed automatically as you add them. R-

I use FS-Addon Manager. Keeps all my stuff zipped up off line until I want a specific bird, I can even bring over a single livery from a folder containing many variations. It also manages my gauge inventory at the same time. It's shareware but worth every penny. Especially if one has over 8gb zipped up. This translates to about 70gb of online birds.-------------------Racartronit means something, but I just can't remember what

Thanks.....FS Addon manager is for planes only I thought....not sure it will work with scenery! and it's scenery I would like to have available as you fly into an area.... I couldn't get FS Addon manager to work, and regretfully deleted itbefore I even thought of asking someone as to why it wouldn't do anything I wanted it to do - back when the free trial was on!!Let me know if you think the scenery will work in it too - might just have to buy it!!! Thanks Eddie

Go for it Zach!! I think we all wind up with tons of planes we like, but not to keep on the active list, and there is so much scenery available, it would be great to "have it all", but not if it took an hour to load up!! sounds like a great idea, give it a shot!! Eddie

Eddie - if I read what you say correctly - the "have it available as you fly into an area" portion is the problem. There are any number of ways to compress your bgl files but no way to decompress them "on the fly".For example - if they're compressed in a zip file - they will not load - this is ok for loading time. Now, if you knwo in advance that you are going to fly into a certain (compressed) area - you can unzip, install and load FS9 and wait while it indexes the added scenery. This may be slower that having it uncompressed all the time.Lastly, if you are flying along and you fly into an area that is "compressed" you might get an error.Bottom line - there is no way to do this "on the fly".Just MHO,Vic
