SSW A310 Airbus - My Opinion Only

Featured Replies

Hello,Since I received so much help from the Community on this subject, I am postng this item to return the favor - if it will help anyone - Great!I am not a real pilot. I learned to fly GA's on FS2002. I own a lot of payware. I became interested in bigger planes and went for the PSS Airbuses and the Flite one DC9 and the Cap Sim 727. I actually learned to fly some of these quite well. I use FSNAV2 for planning and actually get a lot of fun out of the CDU/FMS programming. I fly in FS2004 now but actually like FS2002 better!I went for the SSW Airbus because I got a little bored with the PSS planes in that- in my opinion, are very easy to fly. I can actually program the CDU and fly this BUS from takeoff to landing with very little intervention. While that is a tribute to the PSS product, I really did't need to learn a lot about what I was doing. The SSW BUS is far more complex. Maybe it's the plane itself or maybe it's the modeling - I am not skilled enough to comment about this. I have learned a great deal about how to fly the "BUS" from this product. The product, in my opinon, is not "very pretty". The panels are hard to read and the externals are not anywhere as good as the PSS birds. The sounds are shakey and there are some strange visual things going on with the horizontal stab's. The manuals seem to be the real thing and the support is hard to get a response from and "language limited" However, I have had so much fun trying to conquer this A/C that I am sticking with it for good! In truth, the SSW Support answers to my questions were the final points that I needed to get the BUS into the air correctly. I even learned how to fly it manually with ATC and RC3. It still has some very annoying problems with the ILS in some situations but once again I am not qualified to figure out what is wrong - me or the bird. This is not an evaluation of either PSS or SSW. The SSW press is not really very good - from what I have seen. My experience, while a little trying, has actually taught me not to expect the developers of these things to teach me to fly them. Oh yes - a tutorial for this bird is an absolute necessity!!!!!I have also learned thet the constant reissue of FSUIPC is something I should not blindly update. I have noted that the most recent version does not allow MY SSW or PMDG 737ng to work correctly. I went back to an older version and all is well now. I blamed the SSW product for many problems that were of my own making and those of the FSUIPC updates. So, onward and upward. I am waiting for the PMDG website to clear so I can get my update and move on to flying BOTH the bus and the 737. I still like the SSW A/C but wish they would update the visual stuff so that I could see the panels better. I had to learn where the switches were and push them by "feel". The TSP is the biggest problem for me!Happy flying in the sim world,Ron [email protected] near KCHS

Ron, I've got the SSW and the PMDG myself. The SSW is a great add-on after the last update but still has a ways to go to reach the PMDG model IMHO. I was fortunate enough to grab SU2 last night right after issue and you won't believe how good the thing is now! Good luck on getting the download. I know you'll enjoy it.

damn i hate you! i been trying for the last 2 days to get the PMDG update!! oh well...all i got to say about any payware with FMC and all that is i love it because its a challange to learn each aircraft. all i buy now are the complicated ones!

Well put. The 310 is definitely for the hard-core group, not the eye-candy crowd. I'm pleased with it.

Hello,As you can see from my original post - I am not a real pilot.DO you know if the SSW is more "realistic" in flight than the PSS and maybe even the PMDG 737? When I deploy the flaps on my SSW I get an increase in altitude that I expect. I don't notice this with the PMDG or especially the PSS BUS. I also see a lot of "dynamics" while flying at altitude with wind up there. I don't notice it with the others. Maybe I'm looking for a rose among the thorns but I think (uneducated) that the SSW is very challenging.I still wish it were improved to the operational level of the PMDG bird but I will still fly the SSW along with the PMDG and the PSS aircraft!Happy flying while I try to get the impossible download = PMDG updateRon Sagel
