December 19, 200322 yr Hi ALL, I am getting ready to Purchase a New Vid Card to treat myself and my Comp for Christmas! I am deciding on weather to get a GeForce4 TI4600 128MB, or a RAEDON 9600PRO 128MB Card! Which One do u suggest I pick up, as both of these are in my price Range! The NVDIA was going for about $144, and the RAEDON was going for $89, with shipping the RAEDON was about $130. which is still a great price for me, and about my max price range of $140!! This was at the PRICEWATCH.Com web site, So if you guy's can give me any feedback to the RAEDON card, as i am kinda leaning toward that card right now, I would apprecite the Info! Since i need a new Card for FS2004 Badly! I have an old crappy Ge Force2 MX400 32MB AGP card right now! Which really struggles in FS! Oh and also if you know any other Online Web sites in the U.s for decent Prices please post a link!P.S. I t says the RAEDON Card is a ATI RAEDON 9600SE 128MB, Is this a decent card for the price! >>Also my System is a DELL 8200 P.4 1.7GHZ machine with 256MB RDRAM, which i will upgrade later!
December 19, 200322 yr I just switched to the 9600SE. I like what I see so far. Very nice improvements over my old 7500LE 64mb card. Also to note, if you decide on the 9600LE, just go to COMPUSA in Waikele I paid $130 for it there. Same price as you were going to pay by mail order, and hey you could have it NOW!!! vice waiting for shipping. :-outta http://www.flightsimnetwork.com/dcforum/User_files/3e72a43942b48d2b.jpg There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness".- unknown "My daddy gives me up, to fight for you"- a US Military Members Child
December 19, 200322 yr Hi,I just went from a GeForce3 to a Radeon 9600 and am very happy with it. There was a noticable performance increase and I am able to run with AA and AF enabled without the sim turning into a slideshow.
December 20, 200322 yr I switched to Radeon 9600XT from GF4 MX440 and get roughly twice the frame rate and water reflection etc.Michael TanCanberra AMD Ryzen 7 3700X Nvideo 970 GTX FSX + MegaScenery
December 20, 200322 yr im useing a Radeon 9600 pro the one sold by gigabyte and im happy with it (now all i have to do is upgrade my computer and im set) :)
December 20, 200322 yr Installed a 9600XT yesterday with my P4/1.9 system, replacing a Geforce2 MX400. Overall the scenery, especially water effects, greatly improved. FPS improved quite a bit (10 or more) except with using real clouds. Still takes a big hit and gets jerky.I am trying various settings to see what works best for me. But overall the 9600 was a good upgrade. From what I have read with FS being so CPU dependent, it didnt make sense going with a top of the line video card, and I have no plans to upgrade the CPU for a while.Another good thing about the 9600 it didnt require a new power supply or power connection, like the 5700Ultra.good luckBill
December 20, 200322 yr Another thing to add, not sure if the Nvida's have the feature(probably do) but the 9600 has dual monitor hook-ups. Actually one for a standard monitor, and one for a flat panel monitor. Though not included in with the 9600(it was with my 7500) is an adaptor to convert the flat panel hook-up to a standard monitor hook-up. So I am running dual monitors on one video card. :-outta http://www.flightsimnetwork.com/dcforum/User_files/3e72a43942b48d2b.jpg There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness".- unknown "My daddy gives me up, to fight for you"- a US Military Members Child
December 20, 200322 yr if you go with a Radeon you'll think it's a new sim. The visuals are SO SO much better.... Buy it, and then post back and say thank you for suggesting it. :-)billg
December 20, 200322 yr Hi !I have a 9600 Pro, and I'm very happy with it.Also remember that ATI 9600 Pro supports DirectX 9,which is very important for FS9 performance, and italso supports dual screens.Best regards Bj
December 20, 200322 yr Hello,I'am planing to buy a new vidoe card to. I am thinking about or a 9600 or a 9800..... Proberbly will go for the 9600 because the 9800 is a bit over my budget :-)But If I find a good deal for the 9800, is a 250Watt power supply enough.... Because you guys said you should not replease you power supply for an 9600.ThanksStefan
December 20, 200322 yr With a 9800 forget it. 9600 with a 250W Power Supply is at least very risky. You didn't specify your other components so it's hard to say. But I believe it's fair to say: Running a 250W PS on a modern rig is like driving your FIAT 500 162km/h for 7 hours. A decent power supply is a good investment and very much a hardware insurance.
