July 25, 201114 yr JimAt the origin and destination airports, the wind direction in the METAR does not agree with FSX ATIS, Shift Z, 122.00 or 122.025. There could be a diffference of 5-20 degrees. What causes this? Does dynamic rate of change have anything to do with this difference?Thank youMichael Cubine Michael Cubine
July 25, 201114 yr Hi,Are you taking into consideration that we are reporting real wind direction and FS reports magnetic wind direction? That is why we include the Magnetic Variation on the Report screen in ASE. Also, there may be a slight delay if you are ascending or descending between wind layers, but then if you fly level things should catch up.

That way I know what runway is active 5 minutes into a 10 hour flight. I have tried several phases of a flight to refresh AI traffic but none have been satisfactory.I am on a 13hr flight from EDDM to KSFO right now. On the ground in Munich I refreshed EDDM AI traffic. At around FL200 climbing out of Munich I refreshed the KSFO AI traffic figuring wind direction is never going to change at KSFO. 122.025 says the wind is 236 at 9 right now and that's what it's going to be at KSFO 11 hours from now. I will see what the AI traffic is doing when I get to KSFO.Michael Cubine Michael Cubine
July 26, 201114 yr Hi,You only need to refresh AI once, after ASE loads and it refreshes the whole AI/ATIS system for the entire world. OK, please report back with that KSFO report!
July 27, 201114 yr Author Hi,You only need to refresh AI once, after ASE loads and it refreshes the whole AI/ATIS system for the entire world. OK, please report back with that KSFO report!JimCompleted EDDM-KSFO last night. AI traffic was operating in the same direction I was and landing on 28L/28R. Only problem was the jerk that landed on 28R ahead of me stopped on the runway and I ran right into the back and thru him. I don't think the system would have survived a ground around and another attempt at landing. It was either run into him or a CTD. 122.025 was still reporting the same wind direction and speed, clouds, visibility, temperature, etc as when I checked it on the climb out of EDDM.So are you saying I don't need to enter a ICAO identifier on the Report screen before refrehing AI traffic. One button click would take care of both EDDM and KSFO. What about locked to closest? Would that be checked on unchecked?Thank youMichael Cubine Michael Cubine
July 27, 201114 yr Hi,Refresh AI is for the entire world! No need to enter anything in that Report Screen box. In fact, that is only used if you want to quickly pull up the weather for a certain station. Other than that, it is not used by the pilot.Lock to Closest should be checked On------always.Did you have a flight plan processed on ASE?AI activity in this case is not controlled by ASE. You should use a utility like AI Smooth to help keep AI away from you.
July 27, 201114 yr Author JimCheck Lock to Closest.I always use a flight plan in ASE and the FMC or FMS and I will check into AI smooth.Thank youMichael Cubine Michael Cubine
