July 26, 201114 yr Im looking at buy a new laptop the dv6tqe and apparently there is some problem with switchable graphics. Is switchable graphics necessary to run FSX? or does it just help with performance?Explain it to me my friends!-Mitch Mitch Brown Private Pilot | Aerospace Engineering Major
July 26, 201114 yr What is "switchable graphics" according to HP? Does switchable graphics mean different video resolutions?Cheers,- jahman.
July 26, 201114 yr He means switching from the IGP to the discrete GPU when the load increasesIt's not necessary nor does it help with performance. It's meant draw less power when running non 3D stuff. Saves battery
July 26, 201114 yr Thanks for the clarification, Dazz, sounds like a cool feature (pun intended!)Cheers,- jahman.
July 26, 201114 yr Author So the guy who returned his comp because his laptop lost this feature was kinda overreacting? Do you know if FSX works in Windows 7 64bit Home premium? Do you know if FSX works in Windows 7 64bit Home premium?what was his issue exactly? I've read somwhere that it failed to switch and stayed in low performance (IGP) mode all the time. That's a huge inconvenience because you effectively lose the discrete GPU (the one with the power to handle games like FSX)Once thing is not to have the feature in the first place, so you are always using the GPU (or you may manually switch back and forth as needed) and a very different thing is if the feature fails and leaves you with the IGP alone
July 26, 201114 yr Author Some sort of an update left him unable to use the feature. Here's a link to his post: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/337589-hadreturned-an-hp-dv6-with-i7-2720qm-22-ghz-6mb-l3-cache-wturbo-boost-up-to-33-ghz/page__gopid__2025384#entry2025384 Will i be unable to run FSX if this situation happens?what was his issue exactly?
