July 31, 201114 yr Hi, So in prepartion for the NGX I've decided to buy a new computer system. Here in the local PC shop I asked what would be good to run what I want and what I need. The owner offerred me this; Processor: Phenom II X6 1055T 2,8Ghz AM3Motherboard: ASROCK AM3 N68-GE3 UCC+BGA/AM3/4x DDR3Memory: 16GB DDR3/2TBVideocard: Geforce GTS 450 2GBSystem: Windows 7, 64Bit So I expected high frames(25+) almost everywhere I want to fly. Today I started testing, I have UTX Europe installed, PMDG 747 and some airport add-ons. I loaded at Barcelona(Mega AIrport) with the PMDG 747 to see I only get 12 frame rates and sometimes lower. I am very dissapointed and it feels like I've just thrown away $800. Before I go back to the store to see what they can do I want to request your help. Could you please say what I can do to improve the performance? My most important FSX settings at the moment: Filtering: Anisotropic( I want to use it in Nvidia but if I turn it off on FSX it gets all blurry?)Anti Aliasing: YesGlobal texture: Very highLevel of detail radius: MediumMesh complexity: 60Mesh resolution: 19mTexture resolution: 60cmWatereffects: Low 1xScenery complexity: NormalAutogen density: Very dense I hope someone can help me, thanks for taking the time to read this! P.S: Sorry for the English, but I'm not a native speaker :) Greetings, Shane Waanders
July 31, 201114 yr I don't understand why would they recommend something with 6 cores and 16GB of RAM for a gaming rig... and then only a GTS450We need to know: - case: brand and model, or at least if it can house an ATX board or not- PSU: brand and model, or at least it's wattage and it's 12V rail(s) amperage- if you will be overclocking or not- link to the store where you got it, and link to the product page if it's a pre-built system
July 31, 201114 yr Author Thanks for the reponse Dario. It's not a pre-built system and the store is just a local store here in the village. I will not be overclocking it because I am scared I will break something :P. Case is an Piano-Black 420watt M-ATX. Greetings, Shane Waanders
July 31, 201114 yr The case was included in the deal or you had it before? it's not very good. doesn't support ATX boards, and the PSU is probably a generic one. Not good either If it's not a prebuilt system, what parts did you get / you need exactly so we can suggest a list? You should be looking at getting something like this: CPU: I5 2400 or 2500MOBO: H61 or H67. That's the chipset, there are many modelsCASE: Cooler master Elite 430 or Thermaltake V3PSU: Corsair CX500 or 600. Corsair GS500 or 600. Antec High Current 520GPU: GTX460 1GBMEMORY: 4 or 8GB of DDR3OS: Win 7 Home Premium 64b Although for just a little more you could get an overclockable system, but I don't want to push you hehe even though it's really easy and it really pays off :P
July 31, 201114 yr Author I've only just got this system since yesterday. It was partly pre-built, the only thing that was added was the GeForce GTS 450.I've got a month to test it, if I'm not happy I can return it and get my money back or get parts out and get the money of the parts back to buy other parts with.. Greetings, Shane Waanders
July 31, 201114 yr What I listed, plus a hard drive (Spinpoint F3) costs less than $770 in newegg and it should be able to deliver 20 FPS or very close where you see 12FPS now. For 25 - 30FPS you'd need to overclock, that would be with a I5 2500K, a CPU cooler and a P67 board. That would be like $850
July 31, 201114 yr Author Will it be possible to use this system and just swap the processor and MOBO into an i7 2500k, or is an 2600k preferred? And then a P67 MOBO? Greetings, Shane Waanders
July 31, 201114 yr Will it be possible to use this system and just swap the processor and MOBO into an i7 2500k, or is an 2600k preferred? And then a P67 MOBO? Don't keep that case, it sucks. Same goes for the PSU. If you change the processor you'll need a new board (H67 for the I5 2500 and P67 for the I5 2500K)With that case you are very limited with the motherboards you can use cause it's a micro-ATX case, and only micro-ATX boards will fit in it.That PSU probably won't even handle a decent GPU like a GTX460.Seriously, send it back and get what you need. In your current rig, some crucial parts are are lacking, like the case, psu and gpu and some others are ridiculously overkill, like those 16GB of RAM And the 100MHz (3%) of difference between the I5 2500(K) and the I7 2600(K) are worth $100? your call
July 31, 201114 yr Author Thanks so much for your advise! I found a case, just with another graphic card, could you say what you think? http://www.alternate.nl/html/product/PC_Complete_Systemen_Gaming/ALTERNATE/Saturnus_P120/559185/?tn=BUILDERS&l1=PC-Systemen&l2=Gaming+%26+Multimedia Greetings, Shane Waanders
August 1, 201114 yr Author Alright so I am busy with bulding the PC. There are three P67 motherboards, a deluxe version of 190 euros, an EVO version of 160 euros and a LE for 110 euros. What's the best one to get for FSX, yes I can probably the one that costs the most but what is really the best one to get?The memory has more versions, and from other companies, could you tell me which one I have to take? E.G DDR3-1333 or -1600 etc etcAnother question about the hard disk, which should I take? SATA, SAS, Extern or SSD?I need to pick a 'controller' because it said this wouldn't fit because I had too many things working on the controller I picked, which one do you advise? How many Watt do you advise for a feed? Could you please give me the name of it :) So I got this myself, tell me what you think?https://www.alternate.nl/html/pcbuilder/detailView.html?cn=1&tn=BUILDERS&tn=BUILDERS I know I sound a bit stupid but I want it to work good now and I really appreciate the fact that you take the time to read this and help me get things fixed! :) Greetings, Shane Waanders
August 1, 201114 yr No problem ShaneI can't see your budget because it's tied to your browser's session If you ask me again I will recommend what I posted before once again :) , with a P8P67 board (not the P8P67-LE), a SATA Samsumg Spinpoint F3 hard drive, 8GB Corsair 1600 RAM, Corsair TX650 PSU....You don't need a controller at all
August 1, 201114 yr Author Hi Dario, The thing costs me about 1050 euros as it is now, do you advise me the EVO or DELUXE version?I'll remove the controller I guess but I don't think that's possible because it says 'must have' I'll have another look and see what I can do, no matter what it costs me, I want FSX to work good now, in three years I've spent over 2000 euros and yet it doesn't work OK for me. Greetings, Shane Waanders
August 1, 201114 yr CPU cooler: Mugen 2GPU: GTX560CPU: I5 2500KMOTHERBOARD: If you want to have a board that will be capable of doing SLI someday: P8P67 Pro or P8Z68-V If you don't need SLI: P8P67POWER SUPPLY: No SLI: Antec HGC 520 or Corsair TX650 or for SLI: Corsair TX750CASE: CM 690 AdvancedHDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3RAM: 8GB Corsair Vengeance 1600 CL9 or 8GB GSKILL 1600 CL7
August 1, 201114 yr Seriously, even if you have no intentions of overclocking, go P67 or Z68 so that you at least have the option to in the future. It's so ridiculously easy with the new processors and it doesn't even cost a fortune! While some understanding is good, don't kid yourself into thinking it's only for the computer geeks. Of course, you will need a K processor, which leaves you with i5-2500k and i7-2600k. Anyway, Dazz is probably the best hardware guy on the AVSIM forums, so you're in good shape!
