August 2, 201114 yr Right, I have 2 GTX285 cards running in SLI to give me an nvidia surround res of 5990x1200 in fsx. It works ok but the frame rate is a bit lousy approaching busy airports like Aerosoft Amsterdam. The rate is ok in single screen mode,it's just when I span across the 3 screens that things go bad. So, after a lot of reading it seems that the 1gig of vram on the gtx285isn't enough. So my question to all you experts is this: Would 2 x GTX580 3gig cards be any better than 2 x 560ti 2gig cards? Apart from the price I mean? Would either of these options be any better than the GTX285 setup I already have? I don't mind about the stretching issueas I run FSX in 2D mode and turn off the panel as I have Prosim737 running my avionics through 2 x 10" screens on a separate computer. All I need from FSX is the scenery to to run across my 3 screens at 5990x1200 at a good frame rate. Any advice would be most welcome :) Chris
August 2, 201114 yr First thing I would do is to monitor VRAM usage and both cards' usage to see if the problem is lack of VRAM or if it's simply that the GTX285's are not powerful enoughWhat are AA and AF and autogen set to?Try this (it worked form me and some others apparently): Set AF to application controled and Filtering to "anisotropic" in the FSX options
August 2, 201114 yr Author Hi Dario, I use NV Inspector to control my AA. I use 8XS for AA. As for AF I have it set to User Defined / Off for mode and 16x for AF Setting. As recommended by NickN on the Avsim Forums. My Autogen is set to normal (halfway on the slider)It's hard to say what the vram usage is when I'm running in full screen over the 3 monitors. Is there a way to do this? It runs at 80% when I'm only using one of the screens.... I'm updating my signature now so you can see my system specs.
August 2, 201114 yr I use MSI Afterburner to monitor my GPU'sDo you by any chance have Water set higher that Low 2.x?and please try "AF to application controled and Filtering to "anisotropic" in the FSX options". It won't hurt to :)
August 2, 201114 yr Author My water is set to Low 2x, I'll have a look at afterburner tonight. I'll have a go at those setting too. I used to have FSX controlling both AA and AF in the past.I found that NVInspector hands off some of the load to the GPU which is a good thing.... Maybe I just need to buy am i7 2600k and overclock it to 5ghz along with 2 GTX580 cards! :)
August 2, 201114 yr Author Hi Dario, I tried the Afterburner App. In full screen (5990x1200) it says my Graphics card memory is using 980meg of 1gig. I think that means it's maxed out right?! If I reduce FSX to just one of the 3 screens (1920x1200) Afterburner says the Graphics card is using 350meg of 1gig. Makes sense I guess... The question is now, will a couple of GTX560Ti 2gig cards make a difference?
August 3, 201114 yr You are clearly running out of VRAM. I have no idea if 2xGTX560 2GB will be enough of 2xGTX580 3GB would be necessary, sorry but I run a single 23'' 1920x1080 monitor.I hope I can test a triple monitor setup soon with the help of a friend of mine, but I'm limited to 1.5GB anyway. Not sure if there's someone around with dual 3GB cards to provide a more educated feedback than mine
